#3What does it change? Nothing. Lakers gave up a first round pick also. Luka is washed at 32 he's out of shape every yr. Unless he changes his ways. No one is closer to Luka than the Mavs and they just traded him. It should tell you something.Comment -

He did just take the Mavs to the finals last year. Go back and watch his playoff highlights from last year.
I will say, between Luka and LeBum….they will definitely lead the league in tears cried to the refs.Comment -

#7Mavs just traded "Baby Bird." Lol, what a disgrace to call him that. No way in Hell, Boston would have ever traded Larry Legend. Also, what team would ever willing give up a "superstar?" Like was previously stated, good on all parties for shaking up the landscape. But I don't see any titles for either side. Bron got Lakeshow to the West Finals and Lakers got swept. Was it a close sweep? Sure, if you dont count the final 2 minute meltdowns LAL suffered in 4 straight games. Yes, the Mavs got to the NBA Finals last year. Then got throttled in 5. So Big Big picture, neither team is actually close.Comment -

#10Wild trade. Where will they send LeBron??????????
I like AD as a person and player but dude is perpetually injured. Max Christie was a nice young player but whatever. I'm sure there's more to come. JJ Reddick must have incepted Pelinka there's no way that brain dead mongoloid came up with this on his own.Comment -

#16I think this trade is gonna help the Mavs. Look @ how it changes the Mav lineup.
I can't believe they were still starting Klay. I think Klay goes to the bench. Mav front-line gets much bigger.
Say what you want about Irving. I think he's become a better pro after age 30. I'll say that the Mavs go up from here.Where's the fuckin power box, Carol?Comment -

The Mavs had major concerns about moving forward with Luka Doncic due to his constant conditioning issues and the looming commitment of another supermax contract extension this summer, sources told ESPN.

I just listened to Shams, Shams was floored, so was (according to Shams) every other NBA executive.
I know Cuban has relinquished some of his Mavs 'power', but obviously the 'powers that be' that run Dallas had to be saying "This isn't working with Luca, we need to blow this thing up"
What's puzzling me is how this deal went down in secrecy under the cloak of darkness.
Obviously, there's a lot more that happened behind the scenes that we may not know the details of for months.
My take?
I don't think Lakers ownership is happy with AD's conditioning as he's injury prone.
This is also LA's way of saying to LeBron, "Dude, thanks for the greatness, thanks for everything, but you know, and we know you're cooked after 20+ years, and quite frankly we don't and won't need your rubber stamp of approval on any transactions going forward.
I'm told Cuban and his 'people' have always coveted AD, that had to be a factor too.
Now I'm not 'rush to judgement' guy.
There's truth to the old adage "There's three sides to every story, your side, my side, and the truth".
Analysts are taught (at least I was anyway) that the very definition of an analyst's job is to collect all the data possible, analyze all that data from all sides before forming a conclusion.
I just learned something I did not know.
(See that? Your pal Nasher is not a know it all, I just admitted it. I know what I know, what I don't know I listen to or read from those that are savants in their particular field)
Luca is up for a super max contract next season, if Luca is traded before that super max, that goes off the table, the Lakers are not obliged to honor that.
I'll make a long story short (oops, too late for that)
Brevity is not my forte; I am not capable of making a long story short, it's what I do, it's who I am, that being a blowhard from way back.
Now that I have enough information (data) to form an early opinion, my take is:
a) Lakers clearly think the AD and LeBron era is finished, like stick a fork in them, they're done, and like I alluded to, I don't think LA is thrilled with Davis's conditioning, and LA is gearing up for the very near future with youth.
b) Mavs think they'll never win a trophy with Luca, and think they're much better off with AD and Kyrie, than Luca and Kyrie.
And here's the important part, Mavs are off the hook from that super max contract.
(There's a lot more details that I don't know, like I said, this is just my early take or opinion if you will)
Just like almost every other thing in life, it all comes down to cash money, after all the bottom line is the bottom line and the business of business is business.
"Money doesn't talk, it swears obscenities"
-Bob Dylan
OK, I want to listen to Stephen A.'s take on all this, but I need to get jacked on coffee and prescription Adderall first.
I respect Stephen A., this just be me, but I need to be in a certain frame of mind to listen to him.Last edited by stevenash; 02-02-25, 10:54 AM.Comment -

#27Nash, that's a great post. Very well-thought out. Where else do you get content like that?
You used to see some trades like this. Almost like both parties could use a change of scenery.
I think the key points have come to the forefront:
1) This guy (Doncic) doesn't keep himself in top shape.
2) The Mavs were staring at a HUGE payday. And they didn't like it.
People think these escalating contracts are normal. When you're on the hook for that $$, you have to think about how you're going to re-coup that $$.Where's the fuckin power box, Carol?Comment -

#32So now Lakers just to pay him 'regular max' since this is the max he'll get paid anywhere in the league, rather than Super Max?
Nice move Dallas. Luka is pissed rn but he should be pissed at hotdogs and beers in the offseason. He's the only one to blame. Normal human beings don't deserve that kind of money, and in some respects he's just one of us. He's no LeBron or KobeComment -
