Yea I don't know what happened to Italy. Their only hope is penalties in my opinion. I think they have a slight edge in penalties actually but Spain may just finish them in ET.

Yea I honestly didn't think their performance would be so subpar without him. I thought the line was pretty spot on but I guess Spain was the sharp play given Spinazolla was out.

Having said that, I still think Italy has a slight edge in penalties so if they can survive ET I believe they will advance.

It was a bad call. Guys get free throws in the NBA for no reason it's just that a PK is obviously more impactful.

but this decided the game so all the stopping soccer does during the game and no instant replay? if they indeed have instant replay then it’s impossible to miss that call, reminds me of var and that corrupt olympics couple yrs back

Well they did check it. It was clearly a bad call. I guess the refs were worried about getting out alive.

If the ref called a penalty on the pitch the VAR can only overturn it (or ask the ref to check the video material) if the ref was clearly wrong without any doubt. If the ref is not clearly wrong it stays as called. That's the rule book.

But yeah, cheap penalty.
