#215It's the same logic he applied early on when he didn't want the cruise ship to dock. If they don't reach the shore, their positive cases don't count against the domestic numbers.
What escapes him is that a positive test means a person can be isolated and not spread a virus with no cure or vaccine available yet. The vast majority who contract the virus won't get super sick, and some may not even know they had it. Most (as best as we can tell) however, will pass it along to others. His concern is looking bad (numbers wise) vs. limiting the actual spread.
You see this bizarro logic outside of Trump though. Churches that stopped reporting abuse so it couldn't be tracked (and then they could claim there wasn't an abuse problem). Pro sports hiding positive tests for stimulants. Law enforcement reclassifying certain crimes (separating sexual assault from sexual interference) so they could claim a drop in numbers.
Abraham Lincoln's favorite riddle was "If you call a dog's tail a leg, how many legs does it have?" The answer: four. Calling a tail a leg, does not make it a leg. Some things you can change the definition of without any real consequence (measuring how people "feel" or equating the DJIA to the health of the overall economy), but much like the spread of the virus, the facts don't attend rallies or listen to numbers or projections and then act accordingly.
Slowing down testing does not lower the number of positive tests or mitigate the spread. But showing lower positive tests boosts parts of the market and gives seeming (but false) good news. For a president who has always valued perception over reality, this strategy makes sense.Comment -

Having ICU's reaching critical mass for equipment and staffing, or having morgues fill up past capacity, would possibly cause even more panic than already exists in some circles.
A good example is the anti drinking-driving group MADD. Because of their lobbying, you'd be stunned to find out what constitutes an accident where "alcohol was potentially involved" (hint, if you roll your car, pray to God someone didn't throw an empty beer can in the ditch 30 feet from where you ended up). The motives are good (prevent drinking and driving) so most people chalk it up to being beneficial (if not harmless) to fudge with the numbers.
The pandemic exposed how the country lacked real federal leadership. Having 50 states compete against each other for supplies might as well have been 50 different countries. Having states order supplies and then having the feds step in and take them (and not even tell them) is at best negligent, and at worse, repugnant and malicious.
The virus was coming here whether we banned travel from China or not. It's a hard time to learn about logarithmic math when it comes to how these things spread.
A better thought out coordinated plan for testing and supplies however could definitely have lessened the number of infected and deaths.
A terrible time to have terrible leadership.Comment -

#233It's never been in the DNA with Trump, but it may (underline "may") be one factor that costs him re-election. Whether it's dumb stuff like arguing over inauguration crowd sizes, using sharpie's on hurricane maps, or any number of dumb little mistakes, Trump truly believes that maintaining the myth is more important. In truth, he won because a lot of people just wanted to really shake things up. No gov't experience etc - he's going to get overwhelmed and penetrate up some things. But he's been exposed as someone who doesn't have even a basic understanding of civics, and who by even the admission of some in here who support him, has terrible judgement when hiring those around him.
If Trump gave an interview today and laughed it off and said "well, score one for the trolls. I guess a million reserved tickets really was too good to be true LOL" - that totally takes the air out of the sails. The problem is, for the time leading up to the rally, Parscale and Trump were all about "no one has ever generated this kind of ticket demand" blah blah. So to walk it back and admit you got played, but spinning into "we know we can fill those arena's, we just need to be better about getting the tickets to the people who really want to go" would have diffused what is going to be another prolonged embarrassment. So now when he gets mocked for it, it'll be met with "YOU HAVE TDS!" because in their world, only he can dwell on stupid stuff, but not anyone opposed to him.
Instead, they'll blame protesters, covid panic, fake news about threats of violence etc. As long as it plays to the base, then they could say "We prayed and God said to limit the number of people" and receive a collective "praise jesus" from the red hat retard brigade.Comment -

#240The point I'm making is she is in total support to make things look different as they seem. Do you actually think the national media is going to run this story? The main narrative is going to be the lack of turnout. The real sad thing is that a House representative rubber stamps this effort instead of trying to win the people over with her own ideas.Comment -

Years ago I had a roommate that was heavily in debt. When he would get bills in the mail he would throw them right in the trash without even opening them up. If a person never looks at their bills does that mean that they have less debt than the person that does look at their bills? Just pretending to be ignorant about something doesn't change it's reality.
I repeat... more testing leads to FAR FAR FAR less cases. If it were up to Trump... we would have zero testing and therefor zero cases in his mind. It doesn't mean it would be true. YOU CAN'T GASLIGHT A VIRUS! The reality of the number of positive cases is going to be the same regardless of whether you are interested in the truth or not. Choosing ignorance over knowledge isn't going to make anything magically go away. It's going to make things worse.
Prediction... sometime next month one of the cult members at last nights rally will die from Covid-19 and they will wonder how that could have possibly happened. I'll tell you how it happened right now... it's because there were a bunch of untested people at the rally last night spreading the disease to everyone around them. This is simple math folks.Comment -
