The Official NHL Free Agent Tracking Thread!
    July 1st is finally here!

Marian Hossa, Marian Gaborik, The Sedins, Martin Havlat...

Where's everyone going to end up?

Let's try and keep this thread as accurate as possible! With terrible rumor sites now equipped with twitter, all day we will be getting complete BS reports... instead of saying "Vancouver signs Gaborik!" go with "Eklund reporting that Vancouver signs Gaborik" so we know it is just speculation.

If TSN.ca reports it, that's when its fact

Scotty Gomez now a hab.. finally, a guy with a lot of heart.. they can have that piece of shit, Higgins.. he was so useless this year.

20 something pts this year.. now watch when he plays there, 75 pts.. watch and see. players that leave MTL alwys do better elsewhere cause the pressure of playing here it unreal.

Nicky that was an absolutely horrible trade for the Canadians... on top of taking on a gargantuan contract, you also traded away the top prospect in your system, Ryan McDonagh, who was projected out to be a career 1st-pairing defensemen.

Higgins was injured last year, he scored 20+ goals the three seasons before... of course he'll improve on last season.

Every single Habs fan I know is FURIOUS about this trade.

Habs are going to ship Komisarek to the Wings. He will take a home town discount because he played at Michigan.

"Wow, seriously, this is such a steal for you guys. Higgins for Gomez was a great deal... but throwing in the Habs' best propsect? A potential top pairing defenseman? Wow... I hate Gainey so much."

"Wow....just wow. Justice must be served. My guess is Sather had Gainey at gunpoint...there's literally NO other explanation for this. This is highway robbery."

            "Dude, this is sweet!

Montreal could've had Gomez for a bag of pucks, for all I care. But instead they're giving us their best defensive prospect?! Sweet!

How did Sather pull this off?"

Pierre McGuire quotes from Montreal Team 990 Sports Radio:

"I have no clue what the Canadiens are doing."

            "I'm very discouraged by this."

"Unless they do something big tomorrow, this doesn't make any sense at all."

The list goes on and on and on and on... I can't believe you live in Montreal and are actually saying you like this trade!

I hate teams that hold on to prospects for years...prospects don't win championships...players do. If a prospect isn't contributing within a year or MAYBE 2...I say ship him out and get yourself someone proven.

Montreal will be ok. They need a net minder though and a flashy young superstar up front.

Habs won't really be shipping Komisarek... he's an unrestricted free agent... he'll just be leaving on his own.

Same difference. They will be shipping him regardless because he is still on the roster. They just won't get shit in return.

montreal got gomez he is the best player in the deal so they win the trade for this season coming up. long run rangers got better cause they saved money and obviously gomez wasnt meant to play in ny pressure cooker.

McDonagh isn't just a prospect though... he was ready to play huge minutes THIS YEAR... he's a seriously NHL-ready D-man. Not to mention, having a contract like Gomez's prevents you from making other moves to help your team.

I get what you are saying, and its true, if you are one or two pieces away from winning the cup, you trade players to get the right guy. Montreal is NOT ANYWHERE CLOSE to just one player away, and trading away a guy that was going to potentially lead your blueline for years to come on this contract is beyond stupid on many levels.

Go to any hockey board, threads on this trade are 20 pages of NYR fans laughing their asses off and Habs fans on the brink of suicide.

I hope Samuelsson gets signed by someone and not Detroit. Habs should sign Conklin. He has playoff experience, somewhat, and was solid last season.

Agree, Dave. Absolutely horrible trade for the Habs. Gomez is a second line center making super star money. I can't believe the Rangers got anything in that trade, let alone two valuable players.

Fedotenko, Knuble, or Kotalik, I would like to see the Penguins sign one of those three to play on Malkin's wing.

They really need to stay with the drafting and developing angle in Atlanta, and not the free agent route.

I saw him in a few flyers games, hes...worthless...yeh he has a 30+goal season every season, but he is not there when you need him (playoffs)
I rather see Fedotenko get the spot, he is more solid for playoffs
