I absolutely love the world cup. I am very surprised Italy and Chile didn't make it. Very bummed we the USA did not qualify.

my theory has been for years that soccer is not sexy in the USA. our HS kids who get laid are football players, basketball, and baseball. those are the "sexy" sports. soccer, golf, tennis players, don't get the poontang

that's my theory as to why most kids drift off to the other sports early on after playing youth soccer etc

would be amazing but chances are slim to none. the world cup is typically dominated by the historically great soccer-playing countries and they almost always win it. it's like the NCAA tournament. mid-majors make runs every few years and either make an elite 8, final 4, or final game, but what's the last mid major to cut down the nets? it just doesn't happen.

It's got nothing to do with developing talent here, all of the club teams around the world from the highest tiers to the lowest ones field rosters with players from different countries

They are all transferred around by the time they hit 16 and spend an entire lifetime honing their soccer skills

Most don't pan out and transfer from lower tier club team to lower tier club team around the world

The middle school kids from these countries would embarrass the collegiate players here

True. Dutch went to the final in 74/78 as well. Then did nothing in 82/86. Had some great sides in the 90's as well. I will never forget there amazing side in euro 88 in Germany. Too much infighting though in the nineties.
