My favorite baseball player ever.....Even growing up in little league I always wore 42

It was horrible watching him in his interview in tears.....Would have never imagined this

Even though everyone hates the Yankees, I'm pretty sure even most Red Sox fans wouldn't have anything bad to say about Mariano Rivera

Ouch. Sorry to hear Yankee nation. He kind of reminds me if the Lidstrom of the red wings. A guy you can never hate. One of the most respected as well.

Can't stand the Yankees but got to respect some of there players. Rivera is at the top of the list terrible way for the greatest closer in baseball to go out of the game.

    I love A-Roids reaction. Classic.

Shitty news for Rivera tho, hope he will bounce back and throw for a few more years.

"I'm coming back. Write it down in big letters. I'm not going out like this."
    - Mariano Rivera to reporters today.

Here's hoping that he comes back strong.

Reminds me of Mantle tripping on the sprinkler head...
If not for that injury...The Mick's numbers would have been otherworldly.

One of the best closers of all time IMO. Shame it had to be on his right knee but also not surprising. All those years of using that leg to transfer power from the ground to the arm. Alot of misinformed people will blame it fielding balls. But I think the micro-trauma was already there. When he was fielding balls, a mis-step was the proverbial straw...

With proper rehab and good strength and conditioning program, he can come back with a little luck and boatloads of self-belief.

Red Sox fan here, obviously despise the Yankees, and Rivera was far and away my favorite Yankee. Only one I would ever root for no matter what team he was on or going against. What really sealed it for me was the humor and humility he took blowing a few games in a row against the Sox a few years back in the playoffs... when fans chanted "MVP" next time he came to the mound, he tipped his cap and had a laugh. He knew how dominant he was, but still appreciated the few occasions when a team would get the best of him and took it all in stride.

Hopefully he can come back pretty healthy and at least close out a few more games. No way does he deserve to go out like this.

So you actually think the simple act of fielding balls is what caused the acl injury...?

That shows you know nothing about connective tissue trauma. My "speculation" as you call it comes from years of working rehab/prehab with injuries.

Unless you can enlighten me about repetitive stress, bi-lateral deficit, cumulative injury cycle, it's pretty damn clear to me who the moron is.

So stand down, stfu, and maybe you'll learn something.
