This is the biggest problem with liberalism. Liberals live in a fantasy world where everyone acts in good faith. Meanwhile, in the real world, if you reward an activity with money, you only encourage the activity.I think if you penalize welfare recipients when they have babies rather then reward them with $200.00 more for every kid would be a good idea for starters.. Deduct 10% of their welfare income with every kid they have while on welfare I say instead...
The way it set up now having babies is a good thing for welfare recipients... It's just crazy, if you are broke, unemployed and on Government assistance you should not be having babies!! Needless to say we should not be rewarding them with more benefits if they do..

With more jobs and higher pay due to demand, the safety nets have been on the decline recently w/o congress
intervention to cut safety nets. In other words, the Repubs are late to the party.
As far as inner city people using the system, there aren't jobs within walking distance and need public
transportation, if available, to go where there are jobs.
I know in my area the work force is scarce. Warehouses were so desperate for help they went to the city
to have bus routes set up to their business so those in the city could get to work. If I remember correctly,
would even pay their bus fare.
Using congresses revenue neutral philosophy, if they are going to cut public safety nets, cuts need to be made
to the corporate welfare safety nets at probably 4 to 1.Comment -

a lot of comments that contain anecdotal evidence and I get that, it is first hand observations that are hard to dismiss. but I wonder what the research has to say about a couple of your comments. Anecdotal evidence is powerful but it cannot compare to hard researched facts and figures. Often what we experience in our life, though valid, isn't what is happening in reality and in huge numbers. Sometimes it is, sometimes anecdotal evidence exactly coincides with real facts, but often it simply does not.

Democratic party over the past few decades always pushed for the Government freebies and other freebie programs like Obamacare and they did this to target the black and poor voting class..
The poor on welfare are now to comfortable, enabled and lazy to get out and vote or even care about politics.... Back fired.. Part of the reason Hilary lost..
In the process of giving out all these Government freebies over the years, generations of welfare families now dominate the hoods and that's a problem today.. More kids are being born, aren't raised right, fathers leave, etc.. Vicious cycle continues..

What black drug dealers and prostitutes do you know on welfare? I know several and none of them are on welfare. 1 kid I used to coach is one of the biggest pill distributors in the state. He is very, very far from welfare. I know several black dancers as well and they wouldn't even think of collecting welfare.
More white people are on welfare than anyone else. I'm not sure why when people try to argue against welfare they somehow have to show a crazy looking black person? Why should color, age, sex, religion matter? The face of welfare would surprise you. Like I said, mostly children, elderly and disabled. 85% You have to be a pretty shitty person to not want to help them. Also, you must have some really mental issues if you don't mind us spending trillions of dollars to help countries thousands of miles away from the US versus US citizens that are living in our back yard. I volunteered at a soup kitchen many, many years ago in St. Pete, Fla. It was an eye opener and a very humbling experience. It would break your heart to see a woman with several kids with no place to live because the husband abused her and kicked them out. Families living on the streets not sure where they can get their next meal. I met many veterans that risked their lives fighting in war for us but could not get a job back at home. They were proud to serve their country but their country abandoned them. How can a veteran with a purple heart be hungry? That is awful and should never happen in this country. But, there are too many people (many in this thread) that think an army vet with 1 or no legs should be able to take care of themselves. That they need to pull themselves up from their bootstraps, when they don't have any limbs to pull up because they were blown off by a land mine. We have an obligation to take care of our own.Comment -

If you can't figure out a way to make some money then just sign up for General Relief, food stamps, welfare, then section 8 hud housing and lastly then figure out a way to have a doctor sign off on a fake injury that won't allow you to work so you can then qualify for Disability for the rest of your life...
The system is out there to be taken advantage of..Forget about looking for work and finding a real job, no reason for that..
