Chico just look at America today, it roads, airports, racial division, debt, military decline, decline in education, decline in manufacturing, etc.. etc.. Don't need to google anything.. A blind man can see what is going on. We were slowly turning into a 3rd world poor Country..
Radical change is needed to preserve, protect, and rebuild America to respectable standards.. Trump will try!!!!! America first now!!!!
I don't know if many of you are just young and don't know any better or if you just started to care? Not one thing you listed is Obama's fault. I don't even have time to educate you but you should educate yourself.
Do you understand how our airports are funded? Do you know that the majority of airports are funded by tax exempt bonds that you and I would invest in, then fuel taxes, shipping and passenger costs, etc. There are state and federal grants as well, like the AIP but what does that have to do with the president?
Racism? Alive and well here at SBR but it's no worse than 25 years ago. People are just more open and everything is published today.
Debt - Again, don't blame just on person, the president for our rising debt. Our country borrows money just like most of our citizens. Spend now and figure out how to pay for it later. This is not a Democrats or Republicans problem. This is a national problem and it will take tough choices to reduce the debt but who in the hell will do it? Would you do it if you just elected to congress? Sure, you say that now but the moment you try to cut 1 program you will be voted out of office. Politicians by nature can't cut spending because that would mean stop investing in their districts. Never a good move.
Military decline? Huh, our military is leaner and meaner than its ever been. Our reach is longer and our intelligence is stronger. We have not had a terrorist act from a foreign entity since 9/11. That is pretty damn good.
I agree our education has declined but I believe it's because our baby boomers coddled and enabled their kids. They gave their kids everything they didn't have so we have raised generations of kids that cannot fend for themselves. Kids these days cannot handle simple problems and they are devastated if rejected because we've given everyone a trophy. American kids refuse to get higher degrees because they think they DESERVE a high paying job without any skills. This is a society issue. There's plenty of Indian, African and Asian kids that are getting educated right under our noses here in the US. They understand the importance of education and they are leading high paying jobs. I hire them every day.
I keep hearing this crap about manufacturing. Do you know why people lost their manufacturing jobs??? Automation. Companies improved their production and no longer needed hundreds of people working a line. We manufacture more shit today than ever, but technology and innovation changed the workforce. Get over it. Manufacturing jobs are not coming back just like steel mills or coal. Those ships have sailed.
Do you know where this country was 8 years ago? Obama had to deal with the worst economy in the history of the country. Unemployment was at an all time high and we were fighting multiple wars. Today, Trump comes into power with the most ideal situation. Yes, we have problems, yes we have issues but this country is still the best country in the world. Don't let people fool you, especially people not from here. America is the best. If things aren't working well for you, change you and don't wait for the president or anyone to do it for you.

great post Mac, very valid points.
Im just looking at it from a standpoint of progress, I know Obama was sworn in with a heap of shit and mess to clean up, and it was unrealistic to expect he was going to save the country from all of its problems. I was just surprised how little was done. My goodness who is that ass belonging to on your avatar?

I wish I had a team that did that for me although I can easily think of ones that have repeatedly buried me, betting for or against year after year.

You're delusional and misinformed.
Yes Obama inherited a nightmare in his first year in office and did a good job to get the economy rolling again.. Some could say that the economy coming back around was a natural economic cycling process as well though.. Bush jr inherited a war after 9/11 and we can go back over his Presidency and the decline with him as well after 9/11...
Lastly Obama could have done much more to improve America in his last term, bring Americans together and not try to dilute and alienate Americans into one big world acceptance and order.. I can write pages on this..
Don't come up at me with this garbage MAC.. Today is not the day...
Your making too much sense mac. It is easier to blame the president for their shitty life. He ran up their cards of credit and lived the high life when they were making 40,000 a year, It can't be their fault so lets blame it on the president because they didn't know how to save.
One dip shit in here said maybe the stock market will take off. That is how you can tell they are broke because if you had money in the stock market then you love obama. I hope he does well because stocks have tanked under repubs but reagan. He like trump had democratic leans before he ran so hopefully he does well. But I think when you talk of laying off 20% of the federal workers then you are setting the country up for a recession. I think when you tweet that your going to drug test everyone that is receiving federal money then the guard is going to be racking up federal time. I never did drugs but always felt that they own their own body. I had enough money that I didn't live in the city so it wasn't a problem. I hope Trump does well but if not then we only have to look in the mirror for running a flawed candidate in Hillary. I didn't vote for her because I don't believe in globalism. Didn't vote for Trump because he was to racist for me. As I said before He really can't do anything to screw with me unless the stock market crashes.

See, I look at it differently. I think we are better off if the president does NOT do a lot of shit. Just try to manage both parties and get them to agree (which he couldn't do). I liked that Slick Willie was getting sucked off in the oval office. That means he didn't have a lot of time to screw shit up. Our country is like money management. You have to slow grind and not play 10 team parlays trying for a miracle. Let things get decided locally, then let the state decide when localities intersect and have congress intervene when the states are at odds. Other than that leave the country alone.
I think Obama did a lot, like I mentioned. Turning the economy around was enough for me. My investments have skyrocketed in the last 10 years. It's been an incredible run. I'm not going to give Obama all the credit but damn, I can't complain. Obama care is a necessary evil. We have to address this bullshit rising health cost. I don't care if it's replace, repealed, what have you, just come up with something that can stop the madness. I had a 20 minute back surgery that cost +$100,000. No one in hell can explain to me how/why anything would cost that much. I have a friend who's husband had cancer for 5 years and died. His bills were over $4 million dollars. GTFOH.
We all want the same things, the problem is how do we go about getting them? That's the challenge and these fukks in congress (both parties are fukkers) need to agree to disagree and figure it out.

And so it begins.
Of the nearly 20 inaugurations I can remember, there has never been one that felt like today. Not even close. Never mind the question of the small size of the crowds, or the boycott by dozens of lawmakers, or even the protest marches slated for tomorrow across the country. Those are plays upon the stage. What is truly unprecedented in my mind is the sheer magnitude of quickening heartbeats in millions of Americans, a majority of our country if the polls are to be believed, that face today buffeted within and without by the simmering ache of dread.
I have never seen my country on an inauguration day so divided, so anxious, so fearful, so uncertain of its course.
I have never seen a transition so divisive with cabinet picks so encumbered by serious questions of qualifications and ethics.
I have never seen the specter of a foreign foe cast such a dark shadow over the workings of our democracy.
I have never seen an incoming president so preoccupied with responding to the understandable vagaries of dissent and seemingly unwilling to contend with the full weight and responsibilities of the most powerful job in the world.
I have never seen such a tangled web of conflicting interests.
Despite the pageantry of unity on display at the Capitol today, there is a piercing sense that we are entering a chapter in our nation's evolving story unlike one ever yet written. To be sure, there are millions of Donald Trump supporters who are euphoric with their candidate's rise. Other Trump voters have expressed reservations, having preferred his bluster to his rival's perceived shortcomings in the last election, but admitting more and more that they are not sure what kind of man they bestowed the keys to the presidency. The rest of America - the majority of voters - would not be - and indeed is not - hesitant in sharing its conclusions on the character and fitness of Donald Trump for the office he now holds.
The hope one hears from even some of Donald Trump's critics is that this moment might change him. Perhaps, as he stood there on a grey, drab, January day, reciting the solemn oath of office demanded by our Constitution, as he looked out across what Charles Dickens once called the "city of magnificent intentions", he would somehow grasp the importance of what he was undertaking. Perhaps he would understand that he must be the president of all the United States, in action as well as in word. Perhaps, but there has already been so much past that is prologue.
There is usually much fanfare around inaugural addresses. They are also usually forgotten - with some notable exceptions. I think today will be remembered, not so much for the rhetoric or the turns of phrase but for the man who delivered them and the era they usher us forth.
Mr. Trump's delivery was staccato and there was very little eye contact as he seemed to be reading carefully from a teleprompter. His words and tone were angry and defiant.
He is still in campaign mode and nary a whiff of a unifying spirit. There was little or nothing of uplift - the rhetoric of Washington, Lincoln, Roosevelt, Kennedy, or Reagan. We heard a cavalcade of slogans and one liners, of huge promises to "bring back" an America - whatever that really means to many who look at our history and see progress in our current society.
The speech started with a message of an establishment in Washington earning riches on the back of struggling families across the country. It was an odd note, considering the background of many of his cabinet picks. President Trump painted a very dark picture of the current state of our nation, beset by gangs and drugs and violence, regardless of what the data shows. His words swelled with his economic populism and the nationalism of "America first." The applause was sparse, and I imagine many more being turned off, even sickened, rather than inspired by what our new President had to say. President Obama looked on with an opaque poker face. One could only imagine what he was thinking.
It bears remembering that one never can predict the arc of a presidency. It is an office that is far too often shaped by circumstance well beyond its occupant's control. Those challenges, wherever and however they may rise, now will fall on the desk of President Trump. We can only see what will happen. We hope, for the security and sanctity of our Republic, that Mr. Trump will respond to the challenges with circumspection and wisdom. Today's rhetoric was not reassuring.
Our democracy demands debate and dissent - fierce, sustained, and unflinching when necessary. I sense that tide is rising amongst an opposition eager to toss aside passivity for action. We are already seeing a more emboldened Democratic party than I have witnessed in ages. It is being fueled by a fervent energy bubbling from the grassroots up, rather than the top down.
These are the swirling currents about our ship of state. We now have a new and untested captain. His power is immense, but it is not bestowed from a divinity on high. It is derived, as the saying goes, from the consent of the governed. That means President Trump now works for us - all of us. And if he forgets that, it will be our duty to remind him.
i'd break my ankle and tear every ligament in my knee the first step

Let me break down your post for you. I'm sure it will go above your head but I will still try. You are excited for positive change tells me that your life sucks or it's just not as good as you wish it was. That's a you problem not a president, congress, government problem.
You are proud to be an American TODAY tells me that you weren't proud yesterday which tells me you are nothing but a bandwagonner. I've been proud of this country the minute I was born. I've never wavered in my belief nor my faith. I believe this is the best country in the world. I've traveled all over and we do it bigger and better than everyone. There's a real reason people vacation in the US, there's a real reason people buy property in the US. There's a real reason people are falling over themselves to gain citizenship. I don't have to make America great again because it's always been great in my book.
I've seen all your negative posts about Obama. That also tells me your life really sucked or you were pissed because he was black. To say he is the worst president ever is factually wrong, plain stupid and rooted in bias or you just had the worst 8 years of your life and instead of saying you suck, you have to say he sucked to somehow shift blame. You have had problems and you have somehow justified in your own mind that it was because of someone else.
You say my Obama and not OUR. Obama was OUR president. You obviously didn't like it for reasons I stated above but he was your president. Your negativity is most likely why your life sucks. I've never met a winner that didn't expect to win and I've never seen a loser that didn't expect to lose. You have a loser mentality. I didn't lose anything. I celebrate Trump today. I welcome him as OUR 45th president. I am rooting for him like I'd root for my own father. He wins, we all win. But, I can guarantee you that even if he doesn't, even if things change for good or bad. My life will still be wonderful. I stopped waiting for other people to define my success since I was a child. When I grew up I put down childish ways. You sound like you need to grow the fukk up and stop waiting for a damn handout.
"We need change, we need big change", waah, waah, waah. Quit being a fukking baby.

You are interpreting "America First" poorly. Turned people off? Check the battleground vote totals again.
Your opinions, mirrored by many other liberals, are why your party has lost congress and now the executive branch. This is a critical working class issue that liberals ignored completely. No more.

I've been to Bangalore India to help staff a call center and was shocked to see hundreds of other companies doing the same thing. It is MUCH, MUCH cheaper for a company to hire an Indian worker for 5,000 rupees ($100 a month) than deal with US worker attitudes, laziness, poor attention to details, don't give a fukk. I can hire 10 Indians to answer the phone or provide IT support cheaper than 1 US worker. No unions, no BS to fire non productive workers either. The cat is out of the bag and there's not going back. Companies are looking to save cost and offshoring works.
You have to recognize the signs and figure out a way to not get caught in a restructure. What can you provide in addition to the systems? How can you save money? What can you do that no one else can do? Corporate America has a lot of chum in the water. The days of working and retiring with a company are gone.
Obama has issued 35 executive orders per year in office, slightly fewer than the 36 per year in office that George W. Bush issued and the lowest average in 120 years.
I'll take the 100K in two installments.
