No sir. If we were trying to negotiate with bond holders to put their bonds at less than par it would fukk us royally. All of us. I am actually having a hard time understanding why I can't get you guys to understand it Do you remember when our debt was downgraded from AAA to AA+? Bond issuers who "negotiate" get junk status. It would cause deeeep automatic spending cuts because we wouldn't be able to pay the service on newly issued debt--the rates would be too high. Domino effect from there.

Look, I want to be clear... Do I believe that Donald would ever get anywhere on something like this? No. Nobody appointed Treasury Secretary would allow it, Congress wouldn't allow it, etc.... But would he say things that could be quite damaging? Hell yes. I am SURE he heard from many after making this comment how stupid it was, yet he went and said it again in the following days. I disagree with your assertion, China has 4 trillion in US treasuries and is reliant on exports, they have an interest in the dollar maintaining it's purchasing power given their reserves but also wish for their exports to be attractive to consumers in the US. It's not beyond the realms of possibility for them to accept a few points reduction on some of their bonds during trade negotiation, given the U.S. is the country in a position of strength. China loses when the monetary supply is increased to service the depth, China loses when facing the imposition of tariffs.
