Gerrit Cole ($10,600), Pittsburgh Pirates vs. Arizona Diamondbacks:Cole is the clear No. 1 pitcher today and a must-play in all cash games. The D-backs take an enormous park hit going from Chase Field to PNC Park, and it’s really as simple as that. The only other two aces pitching today, Sonny Gray andCole Hamels, have poor matchups and are completely unusable outside of GPPs. (You could make the case for Danny Salazar or Michael Wacha as “aces,” but I don’t consider them to be, and I’m not big on Salazar’s matchup.)

This is the cash play of the night both because of Cole’s abilities and the possibility for him to excel based on the matchup. The Diamondbacks see a downgrade in park factors going from Chase Field to PNC and their K-rate is 20.6 (a top 10 in baseball). Cole’s K-rate since the beginning of 2014 is 24.5 percent. Done deal.

Jeremy Hellickson enters tonight’s game sporting a subpar 4.73 ERA and 1.35 WHIPon the season and has already allowed five or more earned runs in five different starts this season. He’s been abysmal on the road (6.09 ERA) and, considering his struggles with left-handed hitting, you can target Neil Walker, Gregory Polanco and Pedro Alvarez along with Jung Ho Kang, Andrew McCutchen and Starling Marte.

On paper they did look great. Sometimes things don't work out on the field the way they do on paper. It doesn't mean that it was necessarily a "bad play" it just means that baseball is a game that anybody can win on any given day or night.
I think baseball is less predictable in this sense than NFL and NBA.
