People forget: Kerry thrashed Bush in a similar fashion in the debates in 2004. (Honestly, Bush could barely speak in complete sentences. I don't know how that man was ever elected president.) But in the end, Kerry lost.

Romney is having his moment. And he needed this just to get back into the race. But it will remain to be seen if this is a game changer.
