What do you like about Northern Colorado here, Snow?

Northern Colorado is 7-1 Big Sky, one win away from tying Montana in the win category
who are 8-1. Their sole loss at Weber Saturday night was by 1 point, and it was a lucky
shot from almost half-court that did it. Statistically, both are very solid shooting teams
that average high in all categories. Yet Northern Arizona is 3-4 in Big Sky play.
Both overall are 11-8, so statistical base is equivalent. No injuries on either side.
CBS model has NoCo winning by 2, Sports Network also NoCo by 7.
NoCo is a team that has been good to me. Surely they can win the Big Sky.
NoAz has been good to me on occasion also, but their best asset is also sometimes their
weak spot.. they shoot tons of 3's. They've lost at Montana & Montana St when the 3 isn't
falling or when they don't defend it properly. Both these teams are great 3p shooters:
NoCo is .418 (156-373) overall, NoAz .447 (122-273).
Yet if you look at the 3-point defense of both in Conference play,
NoAz allows .40 %, while NoCo only allows .321 %. With that proven inability or game-style
choice not to defend the 3, they could get rained on by NoCo. Consider the vast difference
in 3p attempts here.. NoCo 373 NoAz 273.. that's 100 more attempts by NoCo, yet their
success rate is still at .418. NoAz lack of defense vs 3p combined with NoCo propensity in
that category could spell disaster for NoAz. That's my personal insight into it..

GAME NOTES: The Northern Colorado Bears try to bounce back from their first Big Sky Conference loss of the season, as they challenge the Northern Arizona Lumberjacks at the Rolle Activity Center in Flagstaff.
On Saturday night, the Bears were pitted against Weber State on the road and the outcome failed to favor the visitors as they suffered a difficult 72-71 setback. Not only was it the first conference loss of the season for UNC, it subsequently dropped the team out of first place in the standings after Montana defeated Montana State and moved to 8-1 in Big Sky play.
As for the Lumberjacks, they've been out of action now for more than a week, last taking the floor against Portland State on January 22nd in a meeting that ended in a 71-59 victory for NAU on the road. The triumph was the second in the last three games for the Lumberjacks, who are aiming to reach .500 in conference games tonight.
With respect to the all-time series between these two schools on the hardwood, the Lumberjacks are ahead by a count of 6-5 dating back to the start of the relationship in 1983-84. The squads are set to meet once again near the end of February at UNC.
Devon Beitzel knocked down a pair of free throws with 2.4 seconds remaining in regulation on Saturday night to give the Bears a 71-69 edge over Weber State at the Dee Events Center in Ogden. Unfortunately, for the Bears they allowed Scott Bamforth to get off a shot just inside half-court at the buzzer which ended up sinking the visitors. The Bears were paced by Beitzel who tallied a game-high 29 points on 6-of-10 shooting out on the perimeter. Emmanuel Addo and Elliott Lloyd both provided 10 points as UNC lost for the first time in conference play. The Bears made good on not only 9-of-19 behind the three-point line on the night, but also 14-of-15 at the charity stripe as well. One of the top offensive threats in the Big Sky again this season, Beitzel is responsible for 19.1 ppg as he shoots not only close to 50 percent from the field, but a league-best 92.5 percent at the charity stripe as well. Neal Kingman chips in 11.2 ppg for a group that relies heavily on its perimeter attack with 41.8 percent accuracy beyond the arc.
Cameron Jones played 36 minutes against Portland State last weekend at the Stott Center and used the time to knock down 10-of-15 shots from the floor to finish with a team-best 25 points in the double-digit win in Oregon. Jones made all three of his three-point tries and also grabbed seven rebounds for the squad, while Gabe Rogers emerged as the only other double-digit scorer for the program with his 16 points as he converted 3-of-9 beyond the arc. NAU shot a sizzling 59.6 percent from the field and 8-of-17 on the perimeter to help combat 16 turnovers. Jones, a 57.9 percent shooter behind the three-point line these days, paces the 'Jacks in scoring overall with his 20.2 ppg and is also second on the unit with almost 60 assists. Rogers accounts for 12.1 ppg as he too excels out on the perimeter at 49.5 percent. As a team, NAU is one of the finest three-point shooting units in the nation, making good on close to 45 percent of its tries through 19 games.
Now that the Bears have gotten the initial shock out of their system of actually losing a conference game, Beitzel and Co. can turn their attention towards taking down the Lumberjacks tonight.

dave i usually don't like to cross the zero line in a teaser.
i broke that rule with creighton today and the 10pt lost.
reason is because it's just not worth it getting small points. late fouls will kill that. so i almost always only tease dogs higher and/or big faves lower.
turning a favorite into a dog is not worth it if you're only getting 6 or less.

They are a bunch of young kids having not one senior on the their team. If Harvard is able to beat Princeton, and get their 9th win it would be the longest since 1945-46, the season that produced their only NCCA tournament team. what do you think snow they are getting +2 and it will be pounded up by the alumni is my guess ?

- fly fisher, Yale does look good tonight. I like the play with them at home
and Cornell is weak, but it's not going to be a YTTM play. YTTM 5 is
tentatively scheduled for Friday, Feb 18th, at home vs. Princeton.
They will be home dogs. Full Moon that night.

- wizard.. tell ya what, I'll hop on the Harvard bandwagon if they can
