Just got done reading it about 15 minutes ago. Great article, David Stern has lost his damn mind. The Hornets came out smelling like roses with all the pieces they were receiving.Comment -

Maybe I overstated it a bit, but from a writing stanpoint Bill Simmons is very entertaining and articulates his message very well rather you agree with him or not.Comment -

i used to like Simmons a lot 10-15 years ago, and i think that he's a talented writer, but his "voice" has changed so much that it's almost unrecognizable from what he used to be. some of my friends like him, and i read him on a semi-regular basis to poke at them over their fanship when we're out drinking. most sportswriters are terrible writers (e.g., JA Adande, Pat Forde - i could go on for hours), but Simmons is not, which, to me, makes his fall all the more sad. he's become very gimmicky and lazy, inserts himself into his pieces (pet peeve of mine is when anyone in the remote neighborhood of journalism writes in the first person - hate it) and has become fascinated with his own sense of celebrity. every joke that he writes, i feel as if i've heard it from him a dozen times already. and i honestly could give a shit about his cousin or his buddies' text messages to him. like Berman and Vitale, Simmons has become a caricature of himself (apparently an occupational hazard at espn). if you read one of his pieces now and compare it to something 10 years ago, the difference is startling.
i also know a couple of people who have worked with him who claim that he is the biggest prick this side of Olbermann, acts super-entitled, treat subordinates like shit, and generally behaves like a prima donna. so, like i said, i recognize that i'm biased - i read about 1 of every 3 of his columns and like about 1 of every 10 that i read. the last one that i remember genuinely liking was the one about taking his kid to a Clippers game (first-person didn't bother me in that one for obvious reasons). i also thought that he was outstanding when he went on Colbert.Comment -

#7I thought it was always peonish for him to remind everybody that he hates the lakers but has season tickets to the Clippers. The same tickets that was practically given away before Griffen arrived and are about a 1/3 of the cost of the Lakers now. Big timers would go to the Lakers game instead rather you hate them or not because it is all about seeing and being seen at that event rather you care or not about basketball or the Lakers.Comment -
