Noob with 13.5k bankroll.

Been lurking around for a couple weeks.

Going to start with a bankroll of 13.5k

Put down: ($100 = 1 unit I presume?)

20 units on the Lakers ML.

3 units on New Orleans ML.

1 unit on Celtics ML.

Wish me luck. Criticism/Advise all welcome.

Pretty heavy bet on the Lakers... you don't want to have more than 10% of your bankroll on any one play. Also, the range you are betting (1 unit to 20 units) should be evened out so that you can rely on your picking ability instead of screwing yourself if the Lakers don't come to play tonight. putting a few units apiece on many bets (or more units on your best pick or two) would be a little better.

Of course, if the Lakers win tonight then who cares what I say, cause you'll be up pretty big after 1 day and you can always develop and adjust your strategy tomorrow.

For me: the most I wager on any one event is 5%...and usually 1-2% on a game.

and so on... 5 units = max play

Thanks. I put 30 units on the Packers ML yesterday. Was very lucky and got away with it. Anyhow, after tonight, despite a win or loss outcome, I will try to even the units wager and lower it to no more than 5% per bet. Thanks

so a "unit" does not mean $100? it means a % of your bankroll?

1 unit is one percent

5 units is five percent

you rate your plays 1-5 on the strength of the play

a big play is 5 units = 5 percent

a small play is a 1 unit play = 1 percent

you don't adjust as you go on

so you have 13.5k

1 unit will be 1 percent of 13.5k and if you get to 15k, 1 unit will still be 1 percent of 13.5k

some people do 1-10 units... but i only advise this if you aren't a bum

Yes. Search the forum for money management. 15% on Lakers is too much, no matter how much you like the play.

Basically I bet $2000 on the Lakers tonight ML. It was -165 for me.

Never ever ever play moneyline. It will kill you. I've seen many people come and go on this forum betting moneyline. Sure you'll win the first week. But once the Lakers and Celtics lose, your bank roll is gone. You have no idea how many -1000 ML players in tennis will lose. Be safe and just go with the spread.

Also, don't bet too many games in one night. The juice will kill you. There aren't that many "locks" in one night. E.g. Bet 10 games, the juice alone will kill you, if not, losing all 10 games.

Absolutely wrong. Majority of winning sports bettors are ML wagerers. That isn't close to correct.

You really read up on -/+EV bets and general MM before make too many plays. With a bankroll of that size you want to make the smartest bets possible to grow your BR even more and plays like what you made tonight will leave you broke in no time.

i understand guys. never risk more than 5 units EVER on a game. typical will be 1-3 units. 1%-3%.
