New automated NBA-PR spreadsheet

I would like to thank Meestermike and Curious for helping automate our NBA-PR spreadsheet.
The next morning when you open the spreadsheet it will automatically download all the closing lines and scores from the scoresandodds website.

Procedure to obtain your plays.
1. Open the spreadsheet and click on the Lines tab at the bottom of the worksheet.
2. Make sure yesterdays closing lines and scores are there.
3. Click on tools at the top of spreadsheet, macro, macro, highlite update_scores and click on run.
4. Go to Stats tab and make sure scores and closing lines have been automatically updated. Note: you can change the closing lines and scores at anytime in the stats tab if you feel their incorrect.
5. click on Rating tab then click on compute power ratings. Note: you can change the date you want to go back to at any time and re-calculate new PR's.
6. To get plays click on Ratings tab and scroll all the way to the right until you see pick column.
7. Scroll all the way down until you get the date the games are played on.
8. Make sure you entered lines from the Stats tab only, if lines are not entered you will get incorrect plays.

Very important: If Lines sheet displays yesterdays college stats instead, follow this procedure because the scores and lines in the Stats sheet will not update.
1. In the Lines sheet right click on any value.
2. Click on edit Query.
3. New box appears, where it says enter table name, replace the number 1 with a number 2. Hopefully this should work.

By the way Meestermike is currently working on the college spreadsheet and we hope to have it available soon.
If there are any programmers who can help him, it would be appreciated.

One more thought. I was not able to program the team picks properly. I was not able to skip teams with lower power ratings laying points as in the rules. If someone can make this change it would be appreciated.

Does the Spreadsheet take into account all your rules like no double digits plays etc... that are listed on the 1st page of this thread??? so i entered all the lines and came up with the following plays for tonight.. let me know if this is what you guys get too want to make sure I did it right

Ok i see what the problem is now... the power ranking date only works up to 1/17... after that I get an error... why is that? i cant use the power rankings from 1/17 for todays games right? it needs to be updated to yesterdays so i can get the current power rankings so it would calculate the winners for todays game correctly...

You have to have enough games for both home and away. I believe its a minimum of 3 games. Anything less will give you a run time error.
Secondly all the rules in my first post apply.

Also, do I have to manually figure out the rules from the original post or does the spreadsheet have those rules built into it>?

I think im close to figuring this spreadsheet out... i just used the dates prior to befoer the season so this way its only obtaining current power rankings now when i run it i get the same 4 teams you do but i also get an extra two teams.. miami and milwaukee... not sure why those 2 teams are showing up...i used 10/21/08 as my date to go back that far to calculate the power rankings.. any ideas?

I was not able to program those teams that have a lower PR and are laying points. Someone needs to program the spreadsheet to pass these games.

I've been doing college since 1/21. The record is 20-16. Had a bad day yesterday. When using Rule 3 and the home team is the favorite, the home team is 1-9. When Rule 3, and the pick is the home team when they are the dog, the home team is 0-5. Got great records and Clemson was a pick yesterday when the game was a Rule 3 and VT was the pick but they were home team dog, so clemson was the play(even though the system picked VT). Been keeping records of other stuff besides just the overall and think I might be on to something.

Yes...college has been good...I would be willing to throw some money together if you guys wanted to hire an excel programmer to create the college spreadsheet. Let me know.

I am not sure how your calculating the win/loss records but I would be careful. Remember the PR's change slowly but you cant go back in time using the current PR's. You would need to go back and delete the scores from past games and recalculatie the PR's and then see what games were picked.

I have several different excel spreadsheets for college and pro football. I believe I have 2 different ones. One is very similar to the NBA and the other spreadsheet is completely different. It works on Point diff, T/O, PEN Yds and TOP.
Their both pretty good. But as I mentioned I also heavily depend on the sportrends software.

Not sure what you mean. I use sportrends and have done every game since 1/21 that they have on record. Don't quite get what your saying.

There is no way thats correct because I am using their spreadsheet which is the same as found on their website and I am way ahead. I am not sure if your adding 3 pts for HCA, not taking games where team w/lower PR is laying pts, passing on games where lines are > 10 and using the closing lines which I use 10-15 minutes before tip off.

I use spreads up to 12, which has only been about 6 but is more than 50%. There are way to many games to try and do 10-15 minutes before the game but I usually do it about an 45-hour before the game. And yes I add 3 for the HCA. I have a seperate record and other things dealing with lower PR laying points as I mentioned before so, no those are not included. Yes, I have done it correctly and have a 20-16 record. It had a horrible day yesteryday with 4 losses, but I counted arizona st. at 10.5 which makes it 5 losses. 1/28 it did about 50%.

Also like to mention one reason for that record is 1/23(saturday) it did bad. Going like 4-7.

I can tell you there were only 2 losses yesterday so there must be something your doing wrong

You must have got washingotn -1 different then. That was the only border line play. Ohio was a loss and california loss. Az St was a loss since I do under 12. And also got washington -1 as a loss. So doing it your way there were 3 losses with the lines I used.
