I don't know how other poker players feel, but I've never been like that. The bad beats fade away, especially when you're playing thousands of hands a day. But, I still think quite fondly about the biggest cash game pots I've ever won, and the first time I made a WSOP final table was magical, and I irritate my wife with those stories quite often. I can't even recall how I got knocked out of the WSOP last year or the year before.

Most losing bettors don't keep records, and they're like waitresses (if you've ever dated one), they think they make $300 a night because they remember the night they made $300, and forget all the nights they come home bitching about getting stiffed.

I personally wouldn't be impressed by anyone telling me they play poker for a living, it's easy to do, and until Black Friday happened last year I would've assumed everyone in the US knew someone who played for a living. It's not like being a poker pro means you make >$1 milly a year, there are all different levels.

You'd be surprised. Lots of people in this business are dead broke, lots of people have a small percentage of their action, are degenerates otherwise. ex. Chino Rheem, TJ Cloutier, Erick Lindgren, etc etc.

When I final tabled, I cashed for mid-five figures. It was exciting to be there, but making that in one day seems like a lot of money when you're 18, but when you are a grown up you realize its not going to really change your life. You know what I bought with that money? Nothing, not a thing. I paid my taxes, and deposited it in the bank. I'm boring.

Surprising but fair enough I guess. I play poker recreationally for fun with friends and online and at the casino (low stakes) occasionally. Love the game, but not good enough to play high stakes online. I like watching it on tv as well, and always thought that would be a stellar way to make a living. I guess apparently it's not as glamorous as it seems or at least not unless you are in the upper echelon of the sport like negranu, ivey, dwan etc. Tom Dwan is sick, love his style of play and the dude is only 25 making bank! I envy that kids life lol.
