#1719When I started off playing low stakes years ago, I thought playing poker for a living would be the greatest thing on earth. I saw the guys in the 10-20 game (this is before NLHE took over) and thought they were all Pros and all rich. Back then, I would play 24 hours straight. Worked my regular job, then straight to the poker room, then sleep 5 hours and back to work. When I realized I was making more at poker, I stopped working. After a couple of years of that I got burnt out. But not burnt out enough to go back to working.Originally posted by fosho14Surprising but fair enough I guess. I play poker recreationally for fun with friends and online and at the casino (low stakes) occasionally. Love the game, but not good enough to play high stakes online. I like watching it on tv as well, and always thought that would be a stellar way to make a living. I guess apparently it's not as glamorous as it seems or at least not unless you are in the upper echelon of the sport like negranu, ivey, dwan etc. Tom Dwan is sick, love his style of play and the dude is only 25 making bank! I envy that kids life lol.
There are moments that can be a lot of fun. Making prop bets with guys who can't figure the odds, I've gotten to travel all over the world, (all of it tax deductible), but for the most part its a grind.Comment -

#1721Ya I guess you have to be pretty passionate about it if your going to be making a living off it. I tend to get bored after long periods of play, it goes from being fun to exhausting.Originally posted by NunyaBidnessWhen I started off playing low stakes years ago, I thought playing poker for a living would be the greatest thing on earth. #1734Trust me I know how much of a grind poker is, i agree with you 100%.
Just saying that showing a semi-degen in the mother of all holes is akin to showing jamie gold lying on a bed made out of money ie they are both extremes but neither represent the grind you are talking about.
As you have said, it is a job that sucks but is better than most jobs. neither of the above mentioned treat it as a job so neither should be given as a representation of what you and many others do.Comment -

#1737Any time I go to parties with my good friend who's a pro fighter -- inevitably everyone wants to talk about "fighting". He's kind of an asshole and he just doesn't want to talk about "his job".
So he turns the table on them and starts asking them all kinds of dumb questions about their job like "So, what kind of pipes did you install this week?"... "What's the dirtiest teeth you cleaned this week?"
They quickly shut up. LOLComment -

#1739That's funny. The thing is most poker players love to talk about it. When tournies go on breaks, I run for the door to get the f out of there, and there is just a cacophony of people telling their boring ass stories to eachother and their poor wives on the phone, "So, I had KJ in the small blind and the button raises, blah, blah, blah", I want a break from the poker, not more of it.Originally posted by TheCalculatorAny time I go to parties with my good friend who's a pro fighter -- inevitably everyone wants to talk about "fighting". #1740I guess what I mean, I wasn't using that video to show what a grind it is, I was using it to comment on Fosho's comment about "You'd think someone who made a WSOP final table would have plenty of money", and I had said you'd be surprised how many of them are degenerates.Originally posted by DublinMeUpTrust me I know how much of a grind poker is, i agree with you 100%.

#1742The UFC on Fox 4 card's main event will now be Shogun vs Vera... Vera is leaving James Te-Huna without an opponent... Is it just me, or would Shogun vs Te-Huna have made for a better fight? I think they asked Shogun who he wanted, and he picked the easier fight.Comment -
