Gunnar Nelson...
Those of you within the SBG family will already know who Gunnar (Gunni) Nelson is. Those of you who follow the UFC, are about to find out.
Gunnar began training Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu shortly after SBG founder Matt Thornton visted Iceland, Matt being the first BJJ black belt to teach in that Nation. Gunnar recievedhis blue and purple belts from Matt, and trained at the Portland academy, as well asthe UK and Ireland SBGs. He recieved his brown belt from his current coach, and the second person to ever recieve a BJJ black belt from Matt Thornton, John Kavanagh.
On Sept 29th you’ll see Gunnar step into the cage at the UFC, representing his gym, Mjolnir, the SBG affiliate of Iceland, as well as SBG and the Renzo Gracieacademy. In his corner will be his trainer, SBG VP John Kavanagh, and SBGacademies all over the world will be anxiously tuning in and hosting UFC parties in order to see Gunnar in action.
It is no secret that Gunni became very good, very quickly. You will often hear his name mention by John Kavanagh, Karl Tanswell, Travis Davison, Matt Thornton and the other SBG coaches, as a prime example of what SBG BJJ is at it’s best. The emphasis on perfectly executed fudamentals, the training philosophy of SBG which is a carry over from Matt’s early days training with Rickson Gracie, is embodied in Gunni. You won’t see a lot of fancy movements or “secret” techniques. What you will see is almostflawless posture, and a calm, dominating game which isn’t dependent on weight class, or whether or not it is gi, no-gi or a Mixed Martial Arts fight. In otherwords,fundamentals.
Anyone who has taken a seminar with Matt Thornton knows that one of the things he emphasizes when it comes to getting good at BJJ is the mindset you bring to it. It isn’t so much what you think, but rather how you think. And ‘how’ athletes like Gunnar Nelson think, is an enormous part of their success.
This short documentary video was shot at another Matt Thornton BJJ black beltsacademy, Karl Tanswell’s SBG_UK, where Gunni often trains as well. In it you’ll hear Gunni talk about this calm mindset, and if you’re sharp, you’ll be taking notes.

yeah they fuucked up a parlay. Kasimpasa was a straight PK play though, parlay was with Under 3.5 in Villa/Everton game and Over 2.5 in Roma/Catania game. Still like those two plays so gonna add them in another parlay. Zeman as taken over at Roma and has a very attacking style. Bought some Brazilians and their defense will still be dodgy this season so should concede and score a good amount this season.

Bellator 73 plays:
Looks like I got on this one at right time as it's down to +125 now on Pinnacle and Sportbet. Van Buren has said he's desperate to get it done in first round, Mucitelli has never been out of first and is aggressive from the very brief footage I've seen on him. Only way it goes over is if Mucitelli closes the distance and manages to grind Van Buren against the cage in search of the takedown and it ends up being one of those typical scrappy prolonged clinching match-ups. Main reasoning behind this play is the fact that Van Buren has the experience of having fought in Bellator twice already (and has more fights in general than his opponent); and also he's spent the last 5 weeks training at Alliance with an array of high-level guys. Van Buren has been sparring with likes of Beltran, Phil Davis, Ross Pearson, Michael Chandler, AJ Matthews, Curt Warburton, Paul Bradley, Myles Jury and Lil Heathen. Then he's working on his grappling with likes of Davis, Shannon Slack, and Chandler...all high level NCAA wrestlers. And before this he spent time in Vegas at Throwdown whilst TUF (Cruz vs Faber) was filming. So even if it's brief he has at least got some experience training with high level guys, and he has trained with Mackens Semerzier back in his home town before. Mucitelli meanwhile trains at a predominantly BJJ school in Syracuse - Tai-Kai, and his most experienced compadre in this camp is Tamdan McCrory who you may remember from going 3and3 in the UFC. Although mainly a BJJ school, Mucitelli clearly likes to bang as well. He is clearly quite aggressive and not afraid to throw down. Certainly not as technical as Van Buren but still could catch Van Buren coming in if he gets complacent. Mucitelli is a BJJ purple-belt and his main aim will be to put Van Buren on his back either by putting Van BUren on his heels and droppin him or by getting the takedown. At this point in time we can't give any sort of assertion on how good his wrestling is. I'm relying on Van Buren's technical striking getting the better of Mucitelli's grit and determination, and also the fact that Van Buren has been in a solid camp training hard for past month that he'll be the one in better shape and will be able to take over if the fight goes past second round. Mucitelli is going to be the one with the first time jitters as this is a big step up from fighting in a Union Workers' Hall in Philadelphia against a guy who was 0-1 in Eddie Hardison.Comment -
