UFC 219: Cyborg Vs. Holm | 30.12.2017 (Las Vegas, Nevada)

Rewatched the Iuri fight. Rivera was coming forward Lineker style in this fight and causing issues for Iuri. He ended the first 2 rounds with TD's in the final minute to seal them which is nice to see. I think fight IQ and willingness to win is the big difference in this fight. Rivera seems to have a good idea of where he stands in rounds at all times. Not worried about any SUB in this fight though. Rivera will use his reactive wrestling when Lineker tries to pressure just to give himself the edge on the feet.

Lineker does have a strong Guillotine but other than that neither guy is much of a submission finisher.

1 fight down. On to Cyborg/Holm tomorrow. I've heard a VERY interesting angle that makes me lean towards Cyborg ITD. When Holm is retreating and using her boxing defensively, she HAS to plant her feet to throw a punch (even defensively). Obviously this will NOT work against someone with the power and technique of Cyborg.

My question for Holm backers: In what phase/aspect of the fight does she have a clear advantage? (i.e. speed, power, volume, durability, cardio, offensive wrestling, GnP, submissions etc.)

Yep, when you watch Rivera's TD's they are mostly reacting to the opponent coming forward so they don't have a good shot at throwing something like that up.

Cyborg definitely has better cardio. I would say Cyborg has hand speed but Holm has better foot speed, especially with Left Head Kicks.

I'm not sure I understand this angle, technically? Are you saying that she doesn't strike well when moving backwards? She retreats in a straight line?

Instead of resetting and throwing a quick jab or something on the retreat, she sits down on those strikes. That is what I'm looking for when I watch the film later on.

I think if anything Holm is a better striker countering then leading. Shevchenko countered the shit out of Holm with check hooks when she waited on Holm to lead.

Cyborg isnt going to capitalize on that. If she starts swinging its anything goes. As soon as she starts swinging shes prone to get hit but none of her opponents could clip her with a good counter because they simply arent good enough.

Im not saying Holms counter striking is the best in the world but she paces herself very good compared to Cyborgs previous opponents and knows how to use footwork and she knows how to stab at Cyborg staying long. Cyborg didnt rush the fight vs Evinger and stayed composed which makes her more dangerous but Evinger forgot how to fight as soon as she got hit.

About cardio: Cyborg didnt have to dig deep when she cut to 135 and almost died because there was no threat in her bouts during that time. The Evinger fight didnt tell us anything about her form. She just kept punching her and reset when she needed a breather. None of her opposition was as sticky as Holm will be.

Cyborg is a pure stand up fighter inside the cage and Holly will be best suited to avoid danger from a pure striking perspective than anybody Cyborg has ever faced in MMA because nobody is as decorated as Holly is. If you look at Cyborgs record its a total bum show.

Holly ML, Holly by u. dec. (+450), split dec. (+1120) are numbers that get my fvckin' attention tbh.
