I just discoved this thread today. WOW...GOOD STUFF HERE!!!!

This has me inspired to do some reseach on past MLB seasons to see if these few months were a fluke or if there is more history to back this up.

Anyone know a good source of user friendly (excel would be great) MLB results with closing lines (Pinny lines would be first choice)?

If it helps, I can tell you that I finished 7th (and won a hat!) in a field of about 5,000 entrants (I think) in a Wagerline handicapping contest in 2000 -- all I did was play every dog at +140 or better, for the play-money limit, whenever I remembered to log on.

(I know, this may say as much about the quality of the field as anything else)

In just about any sport, I think that if you can develop any kind of system/method to weed out some group of dogs that seem to be net losers (even mild net losers) and play the rest, you are likely to grind out some kind of profit overall and also, almost as importantly psychologically, avoid sustained losing streaks.

This was a very good thread last year koko.

I remember all of us were talking about favorites to dogs ratios in April. Well, the next thing you know Onlooker starts this thread to see how it played out.

For the most part dogs cashed in at a very high rate one week before the all-star break, and once again at the 40 game stretch drive, till the teams started to fall out of contention. Those numbers pretty much matched up with the trends I have based over 20+ years now.

during the course of the playoffs I took the dogs in every game evry night and it did payoff especially detroit paid big against the yankees
I also did it last stanley cup run and also did well and especially edmonton paidoff big verse detroit

I never did finish up on this for the end of the season. If I get the time, I will go back and see if I can finish it up. Maybe even get some results for April and May.
