    Saturday Sharp Money MLB!

    7/12/14
    Giants vs. D’Backs
    Recommendation: Giants -125
Even after the Giants terrible slump, they are still tied atop the NL West. The bats came to life Friday night as SanFran beat Arizona 5-0. With how bad the Giants offense has been over the pastmonth or so, the Diamondbacks certainly aren’t any better. The Orange have waymore potential than they’ve been showing, and we have to expect a turnaround tocome. Last night was a good building block, and today Marco Scutaro will makehis long awaited season debut. That should give a spark to the Giants and helpthem string together a few wins in a row.
Ryan Vogelsong takes the hill afterholding his own against a deadly A’s team. He’ll be able to work his waythrough a very weak Arizona lineup. He knows all of the hitter’s tendencies, and should have no trouble getting a win here with some run support to back himup. Wade Miley will throw for Arizona. He’s been solid for the Snakes thisseason but his biggest problem is consistency. He hasn’t won back to backstarts since April. Miley pitched well and got the W in his last outing, so thetrends suggest some regression here. Stay away from Paul Goldschmidt and theGiants will cruise to an easy home victory here. Take the Giants.
    Cardinals @ Brewers
    Recommendation: Cardinals -131
Thismatchup is an example of two teams headed in completely opposite directions. TheCardinals have won 7 of 10 and look to move into a tie for first place in theNL Central tonight. They’re in great shape to do so with their ace AdamWainwright on the mound. The only player in baseball with a better ERA thanWainwright this season is Clayton Kershaw. Wainwright is 3-1 with a 0.79 ERA inhis last 6 starts. The loss of Yadier Molina will undoubtedly hurt thisCardinals team long term, but it shouldn’t be an issue tonight.
TheBrewers are a complete mess right now. They’ve lost 6 in a row and are absolute“fade” material right now. They got swept against a bad Phillies team, and thengave up a 6 run lead to let the Cards take the opener yesterday. That willdefinitely hurt their moral.
JimmyNelson was called up from AAA to start tonight’s game. Nelson has pitched verywell in the minors this season. He has a solid, mid-90’s fastball and a sliderthat induces a lot of ground balls due to its late break. He has a big frameand the look of a workhorse. But as we know, pitching at the big league levelis whole different world compared to the farm. It will be the first time theCardinals get to see him, although I’ll take Wainwright any day over aninexperienced minor leaguer. Definite edge to the Redbirds in this one. Take theCardinals.
    A’s @ Mariners
    Recommendation: A’s -108
ThoseA’s just continue to get better and better. Already with the best record inbaseball, Billy Beane continued to show how much of a genius he is with theacquisition of Jeff Samardzija and Jason Hammel. This rotation is so good thatTommy Milone was sent to the minors after winning his previous 6 starts! That’sjust unthinkable. The A’s also pose a huge threat from the offensive side withpower hitting lefties. The chalk will be huge on this team for most of theirremaining games, so you have to take the good price when you can.
JesseChavez flies under the radar a bit in Oakland due to the other big names, buthe gives the A’s a quality start nearly every time he gets the ball. He wasdominant again in his last start, striking out 9 and shutting out the Giantsthrough 6. The A’s bullpen is rock solid also, so if it’s a close game latethey definitely have the edge.
TheMariners are struggling with the sticks right now. They’ve only scored 12 runs intheir last 8 games. Hisashi Iwakuma has been a bright spot for Seattle thusfar. He doesn’t have good lifetime numbers against the A’s however. Iwakuma hasa 5.13 FIP against the A’s current roster. Seattle is also much better on theroad than they are at Safeco. The bottom line is that that Mariners are not producingoffensively and the A’s are currently the best team in baseball. Let’s take ournear even money and run to the window. Take the A’s.
