Portugal will look to get back on track in the Round of 16 after losing to South Korea in their final match of the group stage at the 2022 World Cup in Qatar. Read on for our top Portugal-Switzerland World Cup picks and predictions.

Switzerland will be riding high after a huge win over Serbia in the final Group G match. They came from behind twice on Friday and eventually earned a 3-2 victory that secured their qualification. Switzerland are no strangers to the knockout stages of major competitions and beat France in the Round of 16 at the European Championships last year.

Here are our picks for the World Cup match between Portugal and Switzerland on Tuesday (odds via DraftKings Sportsbook, FanDuel SportsBook, and PointsBet; pick confidence based on a 1-to-5-star scale).

Portugal vs. Switzerland ML Pick

Draw (+245) ★★★★

This will be the third meeting between Portugal and Switzerland in 2022, having faced each other twice in the UEFA Nations League in June. Portugal won 4-0 in a match played in Lisbon, before Switzerland won 1-0 in Geneva a week later. Both sides know each other well, having faced one another in competitive action on six occasions since 2000, while both teams have won three games apiece.

Switzerland were unbeaten throughout World Cup qualifying and topped their group which included European champions, Italy. The Swiss only conceded two goals throughout qualification for Qatar. For all of Portugal’s quality, Switzerland will frustrate them with a solid defensive performance. Only two teams have stopped the Portuguese from scoring this calendar year, and that was accomplished by Spain and Switzerland.

Prices fluctuate for the draw, so shop around. Caesars has it at +230, while PointsBet is lower at +220. DraftKings listed it at +240 initially, but that’s increased to +245.

Portugal vs. Switzerland O/U Pick

Under 2.5 (-150) ★★★

All eight of Cristiano Ronaldo’s World Cup goals have come in the group stage of the competition. Ronaldo has yet to find the back of the net in any of his six knockout appearances for Portugal at the World Cup, despite playing 514 minutes and having 25 total goal attempts.

Switzerland kept Brazil close, giving up just one goal in their 1-0 defeat to the South Americans. Portugal have scored six goals at this tournament. They should have scored more against South Korea but failed to find the target. A resolute Swiss defense will keep this close and could take the match into extra time.

If Xherdan Shaqiri scores in this match, he would match Josef Hugi (six) as Switzerland’s all-time top scorer at the World Cup.

Bookmakers are predicting a defensive battle in this match. FanDuel listed the Under at -140 early on Monday, but that price has since moved to -152. DraftKings, Caesars, and PointsBet all price the Under at -150.

Portugal vs. Switzerland Prop Pick

Switzerland to qualify for the next round (+194) ★★★

Portugal will be looking to reach the quarterfinals of the World Cup for just the third time. They’ve failed to win any of their last five knockout games at the tournament, losing each of their last four, including defeats at this stage in 2010 (0-1 vs Spain) and in 2018 (1-2 vs Uruguay).

Switzerland won two of their matches in the group stage and will be looking to win three games in a single World Cup tournament for the first time in their history. They’re a stubborn team and could take this game to extra time, and even penalties, meaning they might have to wait for that third win in regulation. The Swiss managed to take their knockout games to penalties in consecutive matches at their last major tournament, beating the world champions before being knocked out of Euro 2020 at the quarterfinal stage by Spain via a shootout, following a 1-1 draw.

Sportsbooks have Portugal as favorites to advance, so you can get a good price on Switzerland to go through. Odds vary, with FanDuel offering the best value for the Swiss to qualify for the next round at +194.
