My Manchester City vs. Ipswich Town prediction looks at how the perennial powerhouse will bounce back from a midweek loss to PSG. Play from the Etihad gets started at 10 a.m. ET on Saturday, airing on USA Network or Universo.

City's first game following the international break was a win over Liverpool, although they didn't look like a squad in the drivers seat until the Reds suffered a red card and played out the final-third with 10 men. Wednesday, however, saw the Citizens well showed up by PSG in the Champions League, falling 3-0 in the first half. Ipswich has had a fantastic start to the Premier League season (relative to expectations), and scored a late 2-1 victory over Fulham (with markers in the 88th and 91st minute). Oddsmakers expect City to get back on track, with the hosts a -450 betting favorite on the three-way moneyline.

Manchester City HT/FT moneyline (-138 via bet365)

City is a perfect six-for-six to start the domestic season, and while some of those games have been secured in the final third, half of them saw the Citizens taking a lead into the break. Sure, the Citizens were trounced during a slow start on Wednesday, but they won the second half 2-1, firing 21 shots (eight on target), and holding 62% of the possession. Some of that came from chasing a 3-0 hole, but they did look like a very different team and they'll look to carry that momentum forward against Ipswich, a considerably weaker side.

Cherki and Fernandez should have plenty of space to work between Ipswich's midfield, and the center-backs will struggle to contain Haaland. If the Tractor Boys step forward to try to pressure City's creators, they open themselves up to being exposed; if they retreat, Semenyo and Doku (or Ndiaye) will be able to work their magic out wide.

My only problem with this wager is the price - it's getting a little steep. By -150, this would become a pass for me.

📡 SBR Edge - the possession game

Few play the possession game better than City, leading all Premier League sides with a staggering 63.4% through six weeks. Once they secure an early lead, they'll have their way with recycled possession against Ipswich Town, who rank 16th in possession (45.2%).

Hard to keep in the game if you can't have the ball at your feet.

Manchester City Under 21.5 shots (-125)

While I've laid out above why I think City will dominate the game, that doesn't necessarily mean it will turn into a shooting exhibition. The hosts average fewer than 14 shots per game in domestic play (a number dragged down by a six-shot performance, but most games fall in the 15-18 range), and they've only exceeded this number across all comps this year on Wednesday against PSG. I don't expect them to chase down a 3-0 deficit against Ipswich.

With another European fixture fast approaching, Maresca may choose to play a more conservative game once a league is safely secured. Cherki and Fernandez will be able to circulate the ball and recycle possession rather than force through what's bound to be a crowded penalty area, and while that might result in numerous dangerous chances, it doesn't necessarily make for an overwhelming shot count.

An aggressive response to the PSG loss - which I full expect - can still see City attack powerfully, score several times, and still come in comfortably under the 22 shot mark. If you're feeling aggressive, the Under 17.5 (+250) is probably also worth a quarter-unit play.
