Teams with Champions League aspirations meet at GTech Stadium on Friday, and I’m backing a thrilling, high-scoring encounter in my Brentford vs. Chelsea prediction

Chelsea are the marginal betting favorite for the short trip to Brentford, but the Bees are a tough nut to crack on their home patch. I expect Cole Palmer, Chelsea’s in-form creator, to get on the scoresheet one way or another. The match kicks off at 3 p.m. ET (USA Network).

Who will win Brentford vs. Chelsea

I’m backing both teams to leave GTech Stadium with a share of the spoils. Both teams boast ruthless offenses, so there should be goals.

That’s why I’m predicting a 2-2 draw, which would be the third time in four meetings that result has occurred.

Score prediction: Brentford 2, Chelsea 2

Cole Palmer goal or assist

Palmer didn’t make the Three Lions World Cup team, and boy oh boy is he making Thomas Tuchel regret the decision.

The Englishman has started the campaign in electric form, scoring four goals and setting up two in six matches. He failed to register a goal or assist in just two of six games and bagged a brace in just 45 minutes against Leeds in the EFL Cup last week.

Palmer has enjoyed recent success against the Bees, scoring a goal home and away against them in the top flight last season. Meanwhile, Brentford have kept one clean sheet in six games, but that came against Tottenham’s insipid attack.

🔥 More Brentford vs. Chelsea expert picks

Over 2.5 goals

Like it or not, Chelsea are currently the Premier League’s run-and-gun side. The Blues’ four Premier League matches averaged 4.75 goals, all with at least three.

They are the second-highest-scoring team with 10 goals, but to Xabi Alonso’s chagrin, his Blues are the fourth-most porous side, allowing nine goals.

And two of the previous three meetings between the London rivals at GTech Stadium ended 2-2.
