Rangers vs. Lightning Game 4 NHL Picks: Bolts Look to Even East Final

The NHL East Final continues with the Tampa Bay Lightning and New York Rangers looking to book a spot against the Colorado Avalanche in the Stanley Cup Final. Here are our Rangers-Lightning Game 4 picks.

The Lightning finally got in the win column in the Eastern Conference Final thanks to a dominant home performance on Sunday. They'll look to build on that to even the series with the Rangers in Game 4 on Tuesday night.

Everything was going the Rangers' way in New York for the first two games of the series. Goaltender Igor Shesterkin was outplaying Andrei Vasilevskiy and the Rangers were outplaying the Lightning overall. However, that all changed with the series shifting to Tampa Bay for Game 3.

Well, maybe not all of it. Shesterkin was still the better netminder, but the Lightning fired 52 shots on net to the Rangers' 30. Both teams scored twice on the power play with Ondrej Palat netting the only even-strength goal on the game-winner in the final minute.

Here are my picks and predictions for Tuesday's NHL matchup between the Rangers and Lightning (odds via DraftKings Sportsbook, FanDuel Sportsbook; pick confidence based on a 1-to-5 star scale).

The Lightning were big favorites in Game 3 and have similar odds for Game 4. They're between -170 (DraftKings) and -182 (Unibet) after opening at -175. The Rangers opened at +135 and are up to as high as +150 (DraftKings).

The total remains at 5.5 after opening there. Bettors can get Over 5.5 (+108) at BetRivers and Under 5.5 (-124) at FanDuel.

Rangers vs. Lightning Predictions

Lightning (-170)

Home-ice advantage has played a key part in this series - and this season - for these two teams. Between the regular season and playoffs, the Lightning are 32-15 at home (28-21 on the road) and the Rangers are 27-22 on the road (35-15 at home).

Tampa Bay continued that trend in Game 3. The Bolts outshot the Rangers 37-20 at 5-on-5 play with a 29-17 differential in scoring chances (14-5 high-danger) for a 3.28-1.51 xG, per Natural Stat Trick.

Shesterkin may be able to steal a game on the road, but Vasilevskiy and the Lightning know what it takes to win in the playoffs. They should even up the series - especially if they can stay out of the penalty box - after a dominant Game 3.

Under 5.5 (-124)

This was expected to be a low-scoring series between two of the best goalies in the game. That didn't hold up in a 6-2 Game 1, but it did in the last two games with the home team winning 3-2 in each contest.

Shesterkin and Vasilevskiy have both been extremely impressive in the playoffs and that should continue in Game 4. Tampa Bay can slow the Rangers down at 5-on-5 and New York's netminder should erase some chances.

Palat to score (+260)

Palat scored the game-winner in Game 3 for his sixth goal in 14 playoff games this year. It was his second goal in this series.

The 10-year vet has stepped up a bit with Brayden Point out. Five of his six goals have come at home. He plays on the top line and with Nikita Kucherov, who should set him up for more than a few chances.
