NHL Predictions Today: Odds, Picks & Best Bets for Sunday, Oct. 4
Last Updated: October 4, 2026 10:02 AM EDT • 2 minute read X Social Google News Link
Sunday’s slate features five games, but I’ve focused my NHL predictions on two contests and three players.
I like Pavel Dorofeyev to continue his excellent start with the Rangers, while Mitch Marner and Tomas Hertl should feel good about playing the porous Canucks defense.

💰 NHL best bet today
Pavel Dorofeyev Over 2.5 shots (-140 via FanDuel)
Dorofeyev is enjoying a solid start to his Blueshirts’ tenure, firing 12 shots on goal through three games. He had five against the Boston Bruins and the Tampa Bay Lightning before mustering only two shots in Detroit against the Red Wings.
He’s averaging 6.7 shot attempts per game, but exploded for nine against the Lightning in the only game at Madison Square Garden. He’s back on home ice, and the Utah Mammoth played in Columbus on Saturday. That might afford Dorofeyev a morsel of extra open ice.
The total is low enough to accept the admittedly short odds. Those -140 odds are why I’m investing two units on the wager.
📡 SBR Edge: Mammoth Due for Some Regression
The Mammoth have allowed a league-low 16.5 shots against per game. That might deter some, but I feel they are in for a regression in the Big Apple after playing Saturday.

Mitch Marner Over 0.5 assists (-113 via FanDuel)
I backed Marner to notch an assist against the Anaheim Ducks on Friday, and he came through. The Golden Knights have scored eight goals in two games while netting two power-play goals on six opportunities.
The Vancouver Canucks allowed 14 goals in the first two games against the Edmonton Oilers before conceding only one to the Calgary Flames. That’s more due to the Flames’ flaccid attack.
Meanwhile, the Canucks penalty kill is 7-for-11, already conceding four power-play markers. Plus, the Golden Knights should be slightly fresher after the Canucks played Saturday.
Tomas Hertl Over 2.5 shots (+135 via bet365)
Hertl is firing on sight this season, at least he has in the opening two contests. The Czech forward had four shots against the Chicago Blackhawks and five versus the Ducks.
I’m also drawn to the fact that Hertl has already attempted 17 shots, 11 of which came against the Ducks on Friday.
The Canucks’ defense, which allows the fifth-most shots per game (30.7), will have trouble preventing Hertl from letting loose.
