Texans vs. Chargers prediction & best bet

Under 40.5 (-105 via FanDuel)

It's no secret how bad the Chargers have played in 2026. Under first-year OC Mike McDaniel, Los Angeles is 0-7, sitting 32nd in points per game (14.1) and failing to score a touchdown in back-to-back games against the Chiefs and Rams.

Justin Herbert is clearly struggling in this offense. There aren't a ton of high-profile skilled players to bail him out, so the Chargers' defense needs to step up to get its first win of the season.

Fortunately, Los Angeles is a top-10 defensive unit in expected points contributed by run defense (10.56). The Chargers have allowed the third-fewest touchdowns (8) by an NFL defense this season.

Houston's had plenty of issues on defense, which comes as a big surprise following their dominance in 2025. However, this is a bounce-back spot for DeMeco Ryans' defense, who bottled up the Titans offense in an equally opportunistic matchup.

Go to FanDuel and bet Under 40.5 at -105 odds.

📡 SBR Edge: No Charge

The Chargers are 6-1 on point total unders in 2026, including 3-0 at SoFi Stadium, while also going under the point total line against eight straight AFC opponents.

Herbert helps Chargers end winless bid

It may be an ugly game, but ultimately, we'll see Herbert make a few big plays with his arm to exploit the Texans' defense. Houston has a bottom-eight hurry rate (6.2%) and is 21st in expected points contributed by pass defense at -40.29.

C.J. Stroud and the Texans' offense have a tougher matchup than Herbert. The Chargers are in full panic mode and need a win for their sanity at the halfway point of the regular season. Los Angeles gets it done at home, beating Houston in a dogfight.

Play to: Under 38.5

Score prediction: Chargers 20, Texans 17
