The Denver Broncos and Arizona Cardinals are each coming off underdog wins against NFC West Super Bowl contenders, but my Broncos vs. Cardinals prediction favors Denver, which has a built-in advantage coming off a Thursday night game in Week 6.

Kickoff from State Farm Stadium in Glendale is set for 4:05 p.m. ET on Sunday (CBS). Denver is a 4.5-point betting favorite.

Broncos vs. Cardinals prediction & best bet

Broncos -4.5 (-105 via FanDuel)

Arizona shocked the NFL with the biggest upset of the season to date, as it beat the Rams as near two-touchdown underdogs to snap a four-game losing streak and an eight-game losing streak in division games. But even though it held Los Angeles to 16 points, it remains tied for the league's worst scoring defense (29.7 points per game), which should provide a jolt to a struggling Broncos offense.

I’m encouraged that Denver beat Seattle last week despite posting its fewest passing yards (168) in a win in the last 45 seasons. Bo Nix now ranks 32nd in yards per attempt (5.6) and is coming off a week where he threw 44% of his passes at or behind the line of scrimmage (the second-highest in his career). But this is a great opportunity to be more aggressive and turn in a “get right” game, as the Cardinals allow the highest pass yards per attempt (8.6) and a league-worst 9.3% touchdown rate.

Lastly, teams that have a rest advantage as Denver does are 16-8 SU and 17-6-1 ATS this season (the best ATS record since 1994).

📡 SBR Edge: No need to throw?

If Denver is worried about Bo Nix entering this game, it could likely still win and cover while deploying a conservative game plan. Teams have thrown against Arizona at the sixth-lowest rate, with Cardinals opponents dropping back at an expected 57.9% rate.

Arizona's top passing target should struggle

Arizona’s Michael Wilson ranks in the top 10 in receptions and the top 30 in receiving yards. But while he ranks in the top eight among wide receivers in snaps, routes, target share, targets, end zone targets, and air yards, he has turned in games of 2/18/0 and 5/56/0 in the two games without Marvin Harrison Jr., who has since been traded to Houston.

If their top wideout is limited, it is difficult to envision the Cardinals scoring enough points to keep up in this matchup. Quarterback Jacoby Brissett ranks 30th in yards per attempt and faces a Broncos defense that is top 10 in that metric, along with the eighth-lowest touchdown rate (3.2%). It also doesn’t help that Arizona is in the bottom six in percentage of drives ending in punts.

Play to: -4.5 (-115), pass at -5 or higher

Score prediction: Broncos 27, Cardinals 20
