Buffalo looks to win in Houston for the first time since 2006 as I offer my Bills vs. Texans prediction for Week 1 of the NFL season.

Sunday's kickoff is at 1 p.m. ET from Reliant Stadium in Houston (CBS), with the Bills priced as a slight 1.5-point road betting favorite.

Under 45.5 (-115 via FanDuel)

Five straight games between these teams have finished Under this total, including their 2024 and 2025 matchups. The main reason is the Texans' stacked defense having Josh Allen's number.

The NFL MVP odds favorite has only scored one touchdown across his previous two meetings with the Texans, which includes an eight-sack performance from Houston's elite defensive line last fall.

So while I'm predicting a Houston victory, I'm more confident in a close game finishing Under 45.5 points. I paid slightly more to get that number at FanDuel, which offers extra wiggle room over the 44.5 total offered at other top sports betting sites.

🔬 SBR Edge

Josh Allen has played the Texans five times in his career, and those matchups have averaged 39.8 combined points, well below this projected total.

Texans' conservative offense complements aggressive D

The Texans' offense will want to play conservative football that complements the team's defense-first philosophy, especially after adding David Montgomery to bolster their rushing attack alongside a reworked offensive line.

Houston's run game let the team down a year ago and put too much on quarterback C.J. Stroud's plate, leading to his postseason meltdown. Look for Montgomery to have a heavy workload in his Texans debut to help make it seven straight losses for Buffalo in Houston.

Score prediction: Texans 23, Bills 20
