In a battle between two of the biggest surprises in the Big 12, Kansas State is set to travel to Iowa State on Tuesday, Jan. 24. Read on for our Kansas State-Iowa State college basketball picks based on the best NCAAB odds.

As we approach the midway point of the Big 12 race, it has become clear that Kansas State and Iowa State are contenders in this conference. The Wildcats (17-2) are alone at the top of the league standings with a 6-1 clip, which includes victories over Baylor, Texas, and Kansas.

Iowa State, meanwhile, is 5-2 in Big 12 play following its narrow road loss to Oklahoma State on Saturday. The Cyclones have yet to lose at home this season, and oddsmakers project them to take care of business in Tuesday's matchup. But is that how we should bet on this game?

Here is our best Kansas State vs. Iowa State college basketball pick (odds via DraftKings Sportsbook; pick confidence based on a 1-to-5-star scale).

Kansas State vs. Iowa State odds analysis

This line hasn’t really budged, which is pretty rare for a big game in college basketball. Iowa State opened as a 5.5-point favorite, and while the line has touched as low as 4.5, the consensus spread as of Tuesday afternoon is 5.5.

Similarly, the total has not moved much since opening at 134.5 across the board. Under bettors can get a 135.5 via Barstool Sportsbook, while Over tickets should be placed at BetMGM with its line of 134.5. But this line has mostly remained the same over the last 24 hours.

Bettors have had success backing both teams this year, with the Wildcats going 13-6 against the spread and the Cyclones coming in at 12-6 ATS. K-State is 11-8 to the Over, while ISU is 12-6 to the Under.

Kansas State vs. Iowa State pick

Kansas State +5.5 (-110 via DraftKings) vs. Iowa State ⭐⭐⭐⭐

Both teams have exceeded expectations entering this matchup, and both are probably due for some regression. Since we can’t fade both teams, though, I like the idea of taking the points with a red-hot K-State squad.

The Wildcats have lost just one game since closing the book on November, and head coach Jerome Tang has this team playing as well as anyone in the country. Iowa State’s defense is going to limit shots at the rim, so K-State needs to create open looks with skip passes. For a team that ranks sixth in the nation in assist rate, that shouldn’t really be a problem. Tang's team can share the rock.

Iowa State guard Caleb Grill, who actually played high school ball in Wichita, Kansas, is doubtful for this game. He has the highest BPR for the Cyclones, per EvanMiya.com, and is one of the team’s better shooters. That is a big loss for an ISU team that typically only scores in the 60s.

I projected this spread to be 3, so I’m happy to take the points in a game that could be a bit of a grind. Iowa State should still win, so play this spread down to 4.5 and hope a close game ends up going our way in the end.

Four of our top-five rated sportsbooks are sitting at 5.5 with this spread, so you have plenty of options to get our preferred number. Caesars actually dropped to 5 while writing this preview, which could be a sign of where this line is going ahead of tipoff.

It is worth mentioning that most sportsbooks made Kansas State the betting favorite to win the Big 12 on Tuesday following KU’s expected loss to Baylor on Monday. That means this market will change again on Wednesday, if the Wildcats fall in this one like the oddsmakers expect them to.
