The 2022 State Farm Champions Classic gets underway tonight with two games featuring four of the top college basketball programs in the nation. The first matchup will feature the No. 4 Kentucky Wildcats (2-0) taking on the Michigan State Spartans (1-1), with tip-off scheduled for 7 p.m. ET at Gainbridge Fieldhouse in Indianapolis, Indiana.

Kentucky (-295) is strongly favored over Michigan State (+245) with 7 points on the spread and the over/under set at 141 from DraftKings Sportsbook. The two teams have played each other 25 times in their history with Kentucky leading 14-11. Their last three matchups have come in the Champions Classic, where Kentucky leads 2-1. Michigan State’s only win came in 2013 which was a push and the over of 147.5 hit. The last two matchup the under hit each time and Kentucky came out on top, covering the spread as a favorite in 2016 and an underdog in 2019.

Kentucky has covered in two matchups they were heavily favored to win this season, covering a -25-point spread against Howard and a -19.5-point spread against Duquesne. Michigan St. defeated Northern Arizona handily in their season opener but failed to cover the -21-point spread. They are coming off a loss to the No. 2 Gonzaga Bulldogs, losing 64-63 in a game that they came in as 12-point underdogs.

Both teams are coming off poor NCAA Division I tournament finishes last season where neither team escaped the second round. The second seeded Kentucky was upset in the first round by a 15 seed Saint Peter’s team who advanced all the way to the elite eight. Michigan State on the other hand had a difficult round two matchup, losing to a second seeded Duke team that reached the final four.

Kentucky will be led by point guard Sahvir Wheeler who is averaging 26 points per game, and Antonio Reeves who is shooting 55.6% from the 3-point line. Michigan State's defense will need to step up for a second consecutive game to limit these two after holding Gonzaga to only 64 points and forcing 18 turnovers last Friday.
