Dallas enters Tuesday night’s game in Los Angeles off a loss to the Thunder but having won eight of its last 10 contests overall. That’s a far better recent trend than the Clippers, who have dropped seven of their last 10.

If it were only about recency, the Mavs would likely be favored in this matchup, and that’s come pretty close to happening, at least at one of our five recommended sportsbooks. But the Clippers still maintain a slight edge due to some serious struggles for the Mavs in road contests this season.

Dallas ranks second-last in the NBA this season with a 6-13 ATS record in away games; the Mavs are 7-12 outright on the road. Typically a stout defensive team, Dallas’ defensive efficiency has slipped to 20th in the NBA this season. Those struggles are more pronounced on the road. The Mavs allow 5.8 more points per game in road contests than they do at home, the ninth-worst such differential in the league.

The Clippers haven’t been overly impressive at home, but their 11-9 outright record on the year is solid. Defensively, the Clippers are much better at home, allowing just 105.3 points per game. That’s the best home scoring defense in the NBA, with LA allowing 9.4 fewer points per game at home compared to its defensive scoring average on the road.

With Luka Doncic listed as questionable as of Tuesday morning, most sportsbooks listed Dallas as the underdog. Upon Doncic’s upgrade to probable on Tuesday afternoon, the line is shifting rapidly toward Dallas.
