The New York Yankees and Boston Red Sox meet for the final time this season, making this an important matchup with them being separated by three games in the standings. My Red Sox vs. Yankees prediction calls for a win by the road favorites, even if New York gets a long outing from starting pitcher Will Warren. I also add a play on a Boston slugger to go deep with the last of my MLB picks.

Opposing Warren on the mound is Ranger Suarez, with first pitch from Yankee Stadium scheduled for 1:35 p.m. ET (ESPN Unlimited). The Red Sox are -120 betting favorites.

🏆 Who will win Red Sox vs. Yankees?

I like Boston’s chances of taking this finale and subsequently winning the season series after the two teams have split the first 12 matchups.

Score prediction: Red Sox 3, Yankees 2

💰 Red Sox vs. Yankees prediction & best bet

Red Sox ML (-112)

New York is 30-18 against left-handed starting pitchers, making them the only AL team at least 12 games over .500 in that split. But Boston is 7-1 in Ranger Suarez’s last eight starts, with the only loss in that span coming in a game where he allowed just one run over five innings.

The deciding factor for me when debating which trend should win out is New York’s mere .500 record against teams at or above .500 this season (29-29). In addition, a Boston team that has been MLB’s best in the second half getting plus-money odds is a steal.

📡 SBR Edge: Struggles without Judge

New York went 36-23 in games with Aaron Judge in the lineup, but is a worse 41-36 without him.

🔥 Best Red Sox vs. Yankees player prop bet

Will Warren Over 15.5 outs recorded (-110)

Will Warren has recorded 15 or fewer outs in three consecutive starts. But his pitch count has increased through all three, with his last outing culminating in 97 pitches, his second-most in a start this season.

New York has one of its most reliable relievers (Fernando Cruz) on the IL. So following yesterday’s doubleheader where the team used nine different relievers to cover 9 2/3 innings, I expect manager Aaron Boone to give Warren a long leash even if he gets in trouble early.

The only start that Warren finished without a strikeout was a June 26 road start at Boston. But not racking up a high strikeout total could also be an effective way to keep his pitch count down, and he did induce a season-high 11 ground balls in that outing.

💣 Red Sox vs. Yankees home run prediction

Willson Contreras to hit a home run (+475)

Willson Contreras is 2-for-2 with a home run in his career against Warren. That makes him a great value play to continue his best offensive season in many respects, including his single-season high for home runs.

Contreras is one of four players with a 125 wRC+ or higher in each month, and his overall 155 wRC+ ranks third among all MLB hitters (min. 300 PA). Much of his success is due to a massive increase in pull air percentage (26.3%), which followed seasons of 12.5%, 15.1%, and 19.8% with the Cubs and Cardinals the last three years. Contreras’ plus-6.5% increase from 2025 to 2026 is the fourth-largest among qualified hitters.

🚀 Red Sox vs. Yankees same-game parlay

One could argue that expecting Warren to turn in a long start somewhat contradicts my Red Sox moneyline wager. But it’s more of a play based on circumstances coming off a doubleheader and could actually help Boston’s chances of winning if New York treats him like a sacrificial lamb to rest its relievers even if Warren doesn’t have his best stuff. The third leg of this SGP is a conservative one that still adds value, as Contreras has hit safely in 10 of the last 15 games, with four multi-hit games mixed in.

💵 Red Sox vs. Yankees SGP picks

💡 How I'm betting Red Sox vs. Yankees: MLB strategy

Follow all of our MLB analysis and expert predictions for baseball season.

It isn’t often that one can back a team that has been the best in baseball in the second half of the season at these moneyline odds. But Boston is a rightful short favorite because of its recent success at Yankee Stadium, winning 14 of the last 23 matchups (and five of the last seven against New York overall).

And from a player prop perspective, I am especially keen on the Over of Warren’s outs recorded knowing that the Yankees head right to Los Angeles to begin a six-day West Coast trip without an off day tomorrow, further prompting the need to save their bullpen arms.

📊 Live Red Sox vs. Yankees odds

The odds are shading to Boston after being a popular short favorite with 62% of the early moneyline wagers. The line has moved five cents at BetMGM for example, from an opening number of -115 to -120 (54.55% implied odds).

The total is at 8 runs across the market, but not before varying levels of movement at our top sports betting sites. FanDuel and bet365 were the only sportsbooks to tick down to an O/U of 7.5 at any point, while DraftKings and Caesars got to 8 from an opening number of 8.5. That may be it for the line movement if the betting splits stay near dead even as they were as of early Sunday morning (51/49 in favor of the Over).
