With only a five-game slate, my options for the best NRFI bets today are limited. Therefore, I'm actually backing one NRFI and one YRFI.
Below, I explain why my only NRFI pick for today's MLB games backs the Rockies and Yankees to both finish scoreless after one inning. Then, I highlight why either the Astros or the Phillies should get on the board early.

π° Best NRFI bet today
Rockies vs. Yankees (7:05 p.m. ET)
- Ryan Feltner (5.91 ERA) vs. Max Fried (2.73ERA)
- NRFI records: Rockies (69%) vs. Yankees (72.9%)
The Yankees have been a great NRFI team all season, going scoreless and holding teams scoreless in 72.9% of their games. While the Rockies have actually been one of the better offensive first-inning teams, Fried has allowed a first-inning run in just 25% of his starts. He's held four consecutive opponents scoreless in the first frame.
And while Feltner currently holds a 5.91 ERA, he's held three consecutive opponents scoreless in the first inning.
📡 SBR Edge: Yankees' first-inning offense is cold
The Yankees' offense has struggled early in recent games, scoring in the first inning just once in its last five chances.
π₯ YRFI pick today
Astros vs. Phillies (1:05 p.m. ET)
- Cristian Javier (5.98 ERA) vs. Zack Wheeler (3.23 ERA)
- YRFI records: Astros (33.6%) vs. Phillies (32.2%)
The Astros and the Phillies each rank among the top five teams most likely to score in the first inning. The Astros have scored in 49 first innings, and they also rank tied for 10th most likely to allow a first-inning run.
Javier has actually been excellent in first innings, giving up a run in just 11.1% of them. But he also has a 5.98 ERA and is facing a team that has scored in two of its last five first innings. And Wheeler has allowed a first-inning run in two of his last three starts.
π Best NRFI parlay today
The price for the Rockies vs. Yankees NRFI is great, especially considering how much both of these offenses have struggled early in games. While Feltner is a wild card, he has been very good in recent games. And considering the Yankees' first-inning struggles, I'll take the chance here. Pairing that NRFI with an Astros vs. Phillies YRFI creates a solid price at FanDuel. Hopefully, Wheeler continues to struggle in the first inning.
💵 Best NRFI parlay today

π‘ How I'm betting NRFI picks today (Sept. 10)
Follow all of our MLB analysis and expert predictions for baseball season.
For the first time in three days, I don't have a two-unit NRFI pick. Feltner is simply too inconsistent to trust completely, even against the Yankees. And while a matchup between two of the best first-inning teams in the league is awesome, Javier has been so good in first innings that I can't risk more than 1.5 units on the Astros vs. Phillies YRFI.
β NRFI betting FAQ
What does NRFI mean in baseball betting?
NRFI stands for "No Run First Inning." It's a popular MLB bet that neither team will score in the first inning of a game, and the bet settles after just six outs (three per half-inning).
What does YRFI mean?
YRFI stands for "Yes Run First Inning" - the opposite of an NRFI. This MLB prop bet cashes if there's at least one run by either team in the first inning.
What should I look for when betting NRFIs?
Each team's starting pitcher is the biggest factor in cashing a NRFI bet, but you should also focus on each team's NRFI records (home vs. away) and each lineup's first-inning tendencies. Recent form can also play a bigger role than full-season numbers.
