Astros vs. Rangers prediction

Ronel Blanco Under 4.5 strikeouts (-105 via Betway) ⭐⭐⭐

Astros righty Ronel Blanco takes the mound for the first time since no-hitting the Toronto Blue Jays in his first start, so consider this wager as us selling high on the youngster. Blanco dazzled from a strikeout perspective in spring training with 18 strikeouts over 15 ⅔ scoreless innings, but he is still a pitcher that wouldn't have a spot in the rotation if Houston wasn't dealing with injuries to Justin Verlander, Jose Urquidy, Lance McCullers Jr., and Luis Garcia.

Perhaps we should not have been surprised by Blanco’s no-hitter, as the Astros are now responsible for four of the previous seven no-hitters, but he shouldn't fare as well against a Rangers lineup that has struck out at the fifth-lowest rate in the majors thus far (19.0% strikeout rate). The -105 odds at Betway are a nice value with a $10 wager turning a $9.52 profit if the Under hits.

Jose Altuve Over 0.5 run (-115 via Betway) ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐

Jose Altuve leads all Astros with seven runs scored, and he's scored at least one run in five of nine games this season, including four of the previous six.

He has yet to cross the plate in two games against Texas, but he's 4-for-8 at the plate, and should find his way on base plenty against Dane Dunning - he's 5-for-11 with two home runs in his career against Dunning. Of all players with a minimum of 10 at-bats against the pitcher they're facing today, Altuve’s 1.629 OPS against Dunning is the highest.

Dunning also allowed an eye-popping 76.9% hard-hit percentage and 30.8% barrel percentage in his first start, so we expect plenty of success for the hitters batting behind Altuve as well, even if he doesn't plate himself with his fourth home run of the season. These -115 odds via Betway imply a 53.49% probability the Over hits, according to our odds calculator.
