The PGA Tour makes its lone stop north of the border for the 2024 season this week, as we make our RBC Canadian Open expert picks to win with Rory McIlroy set as the prohibitive betting favorite by the odds across our best golf betting sites for Hamilton Golf and Country Club.

Nick Taylor put his name in the history books last year by becoming the first native son to win the Canadian Open in 69 years. Taylor holed a 72-foot putt in a playoff against Englishman Tommy Fleetwood to claim his third career PGA Tour victory.

Taylor, now with four PGA Tour wins, again finds himself as a moderate long shot by the 2024 Canadian Open odds from our best sportsbooks in Canada. Two-time Canadian Open champion Rory McIlroy, entering the week as the top-ranked golfer in the field at No. 3 in the Official World Golf Ranking (OWGR), is a prohibitive betting favorite with odds as low as +330 to defend his 2019 victory at Hamilton Golf and Country Club.

Taylor headlines the 25 Canadians competing in Hamilton this week, as all will be attempting to fend off McIlroy, Fleetwood, and the rest of the 156-man field.

2024 Canadian Open outright picks: Who'll win in Hamilton?

Odds via our Ontario sports betting sites.

Tom Kim

Kim is hopefully turning a corner following a pedestrian-turned-woeful beginning to his 2024 PGA Tour season.

The back-to-back winner of the fall swing's Shriners Children's Open has just one top-20 finish since a season-best T-17 showing in February's WM Phoenix Open. He's now coming off a T-26 in the PGA Championship and a T-24 in last week's Charles Schwab Challenge.

While last week's result was derailed by a Sunday round of 4-over par, he still averaged 1.10 strokes gained: tee-to-green and 0.32 SG: around-the-green for the week. Those have been consistent strengths of his this season, and we're seeing improvement in his approach play. His driving accuracy will also be far more important than his relative lack of distance at the diminutive Hamilton club.

These +3300 odds from Betway would return a profit of $330 on a winning $10 bet as Kim searches for his fourth career PGA Tour win.

Akshay Bhatia

Bhatia missed the cut in last week's Charles Schwab Challenge, but I don't necessarily view that as a negative ahead of the travel from Fort Worth, Texas, to Hamilton, Ontario, for many of those in this week's field.

Bhatia has gained strokes in all key metrics except for SG: off-the-tee across his last 20 measured rounds. His greatest strengths have been 1.21 SG: tee-to-green and 0.87 SG: approach.

Those are the two key stats we're focused on this week at a venue where few in this field have much meaningful tournament experience and where driving distance will provide very little in terms of an advantage.

Odds: +4000 via Betway

Robby Shelton

Shelton's +20000 odds imply a win probability of just 0.50% but would return a profit of $2,000 on a winning $10 bet for last week's T-9 finisher in Texas. That result came despite his 4-over-par Sunday at Colonial Country Club.

Shelton's best result of the 2024 season was also his third made cut in his last four events after he previously struggled to make the weekend for much of the season.

Shelton specializes in his play around the greens, and the short game was a necessary strength the last time the Canadian Open was played at Hamilton Golf and Country Club in 2019.

We also dive deeper into dark-horse territory with our other Canadian Open long-shot picks.
