My best Wisconsin vs. Notre Dame prediction focuses on how No. 4 Notre Dame will adjust to life without the running back duo of Jeremiyah Love and Jadarian Price. Starting quarterback CJ Carr returns, but I'm worried about his productivity against last year's 24th-ranked total defense.

Last season, Wisconsin ranked second-to-last in total offense and scoring offense, averaging just 253.1 yards and 12.8 points per game. Even with the addition of quarterback Colton Joseph, who threw for 2,624 yards with Old Dominion, I still don't expect major strides, especially not against last year's 10th-ranked scoring defense.
Notre Dame loses two running backs who combined for 2,046 rushing yards and 29 rushing touchdowns last year. For as bad as Wisconsin was, the Badgers allowed just 21.6 points per game last year.

Jordan Faison to score a touchdown (+125)
Last season, Faison led Notre Dame with 49 receptions and 630 yards, while adding four touchdowns. The two receivers who scored more touchdowns than him are in the NFL now, so I expect him to emerge as an even larger favorite of Carr's this season.
Scoring rushing touchdowns against Wisconsin was nearly impossible last season, but the Badgers allowed 19 passing touchdowns, tied for 74th in the country.

This is the type of game that Notre Dame can dominate but still only win by two scores. Despite having one of the worst offenses in the nation last season, Wisconsin lost only four games by more than 20. Three of those teams made the College Football Playoff. Notre Dame may be great this year, but with a lot of new pieces on offense, I worry the Fighting Irish will struggle early against a very good defense, which is why I'm backing the Under and Wisconsin to cover the spread.

Wisconsin's offense is better than last season, but it isn't good enough to do real damage against Notre Dame. And with Notre Dame losing multiple running backs and receivers to the NFL, I expect Carr and company to start slow. Therefore, I'm risking two units on the Under, and I'm backing Wisconsin to cover for 1.5 units. I'd risk two units on Wisconsin to cover, but they were really bad last season, so I need to see them play before I can be overly confident in the Badgers.
