East Carolina vs. Memphis Prediction: Week 8 Odds, Picks & Best Bet
Last Updated: October 21, 2026 1:00 PM EDT • 3 minute read X Social Google News Link
East Carolina and Memphis play the last of three FBS games kicking off Thursday night, and my East Carolina vs. Memphis prediction backs the home favorites by a large margin, while the line has moved and crossed a key number. So I expect a big Tigers win as they end a three-game losing streak in this rivalry, which has come by a total of seven points.
Kickoff from Simmons Bank Liberty Stadium in Memphis is scheduled for 7:30 p.m. ET (ESPN2). The Tigers are 9.5-point betting favorites.

Memphis -9.5 (-110 via BetMGM)
Memphis lost its last game outright to road favorites Tulane (31-17) and was outscored 28-7 over the last two and a half quarters. The Tigers dominated the box score, with 27 first downs to 12 and 163 more total yards, but six turnovers cost them. But they should have better ball security against an East Carolina defense that ranks outside the top 50 in takeaways.
East Carolina started the season getting torched by one of the country’s best dual-threat quarterbacks in Alabama’s Keelon Russell, who threw for 256 yards and ran for a game-high 86 yards. I also expect it to struggle to contain Memphis’ Marcus Stokes, who ranks top 11 in FBS passing yards and passing touchdowns while adding 200 yards on the ground.
While the Pirates had one more day to prepare for this matchup having played last Thursday, that is somewhat mitigated by playing an overtime game against UAB.
I'm making this Memphis ATS play at BetMGM before the line moves through the key betting number of -10, like it has at bet365 who is offering -10.5 at -102 odds (50.50% implied odds).
📡 SBR Edge: Memphis' home succes
Memphis has covered the spread in two-thirds of its home games (six of nine) since the start of 2025. The Tigers are also tied for the fifth most home wins in the country since 2014, trailing only Alabama, Ohio State, Clemson, and Georgia.
East Carolina's offense cannot keep up
East Carolina’s offensive metrics suggest it won’t keep up, and it will likely need to score in the 30s to win. The Pirates rank 106th or worse in EPA per rush and per pass and are outside the top 100 in net adjusted EPA per play.
On the other side, Memphis is a top-40 team in net adjusted EPA per play, and sits inside the top 25 in net success rate. The Tigers also rank in the top six nationally in first downs, passing efficiency, and total offense.
Score prediction: Memphis 31, East Carolina 17
