UMass vs. UConn ATS Pick

UConn -14 (-110) ★★★

The Jim Mora effect is in full force at Storrs, as the first-year head coach has already done an outstanding job in changing the football culture at UConn. The Huskies had won more than three games just once since 2012 and earned back-to-back wins over FBS opponents earlier this season after not beating an FBS team since 2019. The winning streak was also the program's first since 2017, and the road win over FIU was the school's first since 2019.

Many will consider a typical trap spot for UConn, with this game against the lowly Minutemen sandwiched between an ACC opponent in Boston College and a ranked Liberty team next week. However, UMass has been one of the least competitive teams at the FBS level this year, with just one of its seven losses by single digits.

UMass has covered the spread in seven of its last 27 road games, and we expect Mora to have UConn playing with focus and ready to dominate an inferior opponent.

UMass vs. UConn O/U Pick

Under 41 (-110) ★★★

Per ESPN's SP+ ratings, UMass is ranked 131st out of 131 teams and is the only school that's ranked 110th or worse in the Offensive, Defensive, and Special Teams categories. The Minutemen have been held to 13 or fewer points in six of their seven losses, so we are not concerned about their ability to score points. Conversely, with a ranked opponent on tap next week, we look for UConn to use a vanilla offensive gameplan and pound their two top running backs (Nathan Carter and Devontae Houston), each of whom averages at least 6.2 yards per carry.

The Under is 5-1 in UMass' last six games and has cashed in each of UConn's previous four, so we expect another defensive struggle here.

UMass vs. UConn Prop Pick

UConn -7.5 first half spread (-110) ★★

The Huskies have covered the spread in each of their last five games, and we expect them to be motivated to jump out to a comfortable early lead and give Mora the option to rest players in the second half. UConn got constant pressure against the Boston College offensive line, registering five sacks, and forcing five total turnovers. Its defensive pressure was even more fierce in Boston College's two red zone trips, which amounted to just three points. Eagles quarterback Phil Jurkovec will play on Sundays at some point, but the Huskies' defense made him look pedestrian, and we do not expect more out of whichever of the three quarterbacks UMass starts this week.
