The college football player props for Week 0 offerings are slim, even slimmer than they are all season long.

But there are still a few spots of value to enjoy on Saturday, Aug. 29, particularly ones with some passers on the West Coast in Jayden Maiava and Micah Alejado.

Jayden Maiava 3+ touchdown passes (-125 via DraftKings)

San Jose State does not return a single defensive starter from last season. That is not entirely unheard of in our portal era, but there is still a learning curve to be expected for the newlook unit.

Jayden Maiava has a theoretical Heisman campaign to kick off in front of a captive audience, and Lincoln Riley has a hot seat to cool. Expect the USC Trojans to pour it on in this opener, to the extent that considering Maiava at 4+ touchdowns at +253 at DraftKings would also be time well spent.

Micah Alejado 280+ Passing Yards (+122 via DraftKings)

Timmy Chang’s “Spread’n’Shred” offense should live up to its billing against Stanford. What continues to be underdiscussed is the reality that the Cardinal’s roster is more akin to a Group of Six team’s than an ACC standard. Frankly, Stanford may be worse than most of the American conference, the top third of the Mountain West, and a couple of squads in the Pac-12.

In this case, note the top third of the Mountain West, right about where the Hawai’i Rainbow Warriors hover.

As long as quarterback Micah Alejado is healthy, expect the Warriors to push the pace. That should come at Stanford’s expense.

Jai'Den Thomas Anytime TD + UNLV win (-105 via FanDuel)

The real want would be to grab Jai’Den Thomas scoring multiple touchdowns, but the best sports betting sites are not offering that bet yet. College football props are offered so inconsistently that they should not be a pillar of your betting portfolio.

Thomas is the focus of the UNLV Rebels’ offense, and he is primed to have a massive season. His only struggles last year came against Boise State. Great news for Thomas, the Broncos moved on to the Pac-12.
