College Football Picks: Best Week 5 Over/Under Bets

Top college football Over/Under picks for Week 5.

We're taking an early look at the total lines for Week 5 of the college football season. Here are the best Over/Under bets of Week 5.

After giving up just 10 points in three weeks, the Georgia Bulldogs allowed Kent State to score 22 on Saturday, which pushed the games total easily over the line set by oddsmakers. The final was one of many from Saturday that proved that just when you think you have college football figured out, you’re still going to face some major surprises.

Here are the best Over/Under bets of college football Week 5 (odds via DraftKings Sportsbook, BetMGM, FanDuel Sportsbook; pick confidence based on a 1-to-5-star scale).

Top College Football Over/Under Predictions of Week 5

NC State-Clemson Over 42.5 (-110) ★★★★

The NC State Wolfpack just narrowly squeaked out the Over in their game against UConn last week. Now, they head to Clemson for a top-10 matchup. The Tigers were part of one of the most exciting games of Week 4, as they outlasted Wake Forest for a 51-45 double-overtime victory.

This week’s game won’t see nearly as much scoring, however, the Tigers do have one of their worst defenses in recent memory. They have allowed at least 10 points in every game this season, which includes wins over Georgia Tech, Furman, and Louisiana Tech.

This should be a close game, which can slow things down, but Wolfpack quarterback Devin Leary had huge success last season in an overtime win against Clemson. He threw for 238 yards and four touchdowns, and based on what Sam Hartman was able to do last week, there is no reason to think Leary can’t do it again.

The last four games between these two teams have cleared this number. This won’t be a shootout, but this number is simply too low.

Virginia-Duke Under 52.5 (+105) ★★★★

This is an odd line from oddsmakers. The highest-scoring game for the Virginia Cavaliers was their season-opening 34-17 win over Richmond. Since then, the totals in their games have been 27, 30, and 42.

The Duke Blue Devils are averaging 34.3 points per game, but they have done this against mediocre competition, with the exception of last week’s loss to Kansas. Despite their offense, the Under has hit in four of Duke’s last five games. The Under has also cashed in the last six meetings between these two teams and in Virginia’s last five games overall.

Everything is trending Under, and the Cavaliers’ offense isn’t good enough to take advantage of an average Blue Devils’ defense. Maybe the oddsmakers know something we don't. Or maybe, in this case, it’s just that easy.

Oklahoma State-Baylor Over 54.5 (-110) ★★★★

The Under has hit in the last three meetings between these two teams, including twice in 2021. However, these two offenses are among the best in college football, which should be more than enough to push this Over.

The Cowboys are averaging 51.7 points per game, and though they haven’t had much competition yet this season, they’re also allowing 22.7 points per contest. The Bears are very quietly averaging 40.5 points per game, and they have had serious road contests at BYU and Iowa State.

The Bears may try to run the ball with Richard Reese to keep it away from the Oklahoma State offense, yet even if they do, it shouldn’t slow down the pace of play that much. Both of these teams can, and should, easily get into the 30s.
