While I’m skeptical of how USC will infuse the sheer volume of incoming freshmen into positions of prominence on the depth chart, my concerns are assuaged by the reality that these young skill position players have one of the best quarterbacks in the country ushering them along.
Jayden Maiava cleared this passing line of 284.5 yards from FanDuel in both of his non-conference starts last season, showing Riley’s propensity to pour it on with style points.
USC will want Maiava to garner Heisman attention from this performance, so he’s going to air it out.

Where the touchdown distribution might fall will be interesting to monitor, but with USC favored by 38.5 points, there should be plenty of Trojans finding paydirt. Because of my expectation that Maiava will aim to put on a show, I’m looking in the direction of freshman TE Mark Bowman.
A top 50-recruit in the Class of 2026, Bowman is listed atop the USC tight end depth chart. It wouldn’t surprise me if Maiava throws five touchdowns, so getting his potential top TE option at +105 odds from FanDuel seems like strong value.
Avoid the -125 odds offered from DraftKings for this prop.
Kayden Dixon-Wyatt, WR, USC: 31+ receiving yards (-115 via DraftKings)
With standout sophomore WR Tanook Hines considered a game-time decision for this one, I’m looking to exploit angles that can find Maiava’s passing distribution landing with other receiving candidates, while staying away from the potential trap lines on Hines (sportsbooks are only offering his Overs, so far).
Let’s roll with another freshman, as WR Kayden Dixon-Wyatt is listed as a starter on the USC official depth chart at one of the wideout spots. San Jose State ranked 109th in FBS in 2025 in passing yards allowed per game -- plenty of receivers should eat in this matchup.
Even if volume for freshmen in Week 0 may be hard to come by, Dixon-Wyatt’s receiving total from DraftKings is low enough that one big shot could clear 31+ receiving yards.
