Oklahoma vs. Mississippi State Prediction: Week 8 Odds, Picks & Best Bet (Oct. 24)
Last Updated: October 23, 2026 2:00 PM EDT • 3 minute read X Social Google News Link
My best Oklahoma vs. Mississippi State prediction focuses on how injuries will impact this contest. Last week, with quarterback Kamario Taylor and running back Fluff Bothwell out, LSU shut out Mississippi State. Both players are listed as questionable for this game, but even if they can play, neither seems to be at 100 percent.
Oklahoma is favored by 5.5 points ahead of Saturday's 3:30 p.m. ET game at Davis Wade Stadium in Starkville, Miss. The game will air on the SEC Network and stream on ESPN Unlimited.

Oklahoma -5.5 (-112 via DraftKings)
Mississippi State is an offensive-minded team, as the defense ranks 15th in the SEC in yards and points allowed per game. However, with the statuses of Taylor and Bothwell up in the air, it's hard to feel confident in an offense that managed 291 yards and zero points last week against LSU.
Even if both players take the field, Oklahoma is still only allowing 18.2 points per game. The only team to score more than 24 against the Sooners is Georgia, which is saying a lot since Oklahoma has also faced Texas and Kentucky.
Oklahoma is particularly good against the pass, allowing just 151.3 passing yards per game. That's the fewest in the SEC. Mississippi State ranks third in the SEC in passing yards per game, but Parker Puckett only managed to complete 16 of his 26 passes for 121 yards last week.
📡 SBR Edge: Oklahoma's defense
Oklahoma is only allowing 4.59 yards per play, which ranks fifth in the SEC. Mississippi State is averaging 6.43 yards per play but managed just 4.3 yards per play against Alabama in a game started by Taylor. Last week, Mississippi State averaged 4.2 yards per play.
Oklahoma's passing attack to exploit a great matchup
Oklahoma is averaging just 219 passing yards per game, which ranks 13th in the SEC. However, the team is averaging 7.3 yards per attempt, which should prove effective against Mississippi State's 127th-ranked pass defense. Mississippi State is allowing 7.3 yards per attempt, and opponents are completing 66.1% of their passes.
John Mateer has thrown for at least 231 yards in three of his last four games. While Mateer threw three interceptions last week, Mississippi State has just two interceptions this season, which is the fewest in the SEC.
