Pac-12 Week 2 Top Picks

Oregon State (-115) ★★★★

Oregon State has started hot at home after defeating Boise State 34-17 in Week 1. Quarterback Chance Nolan was solid, throwing for 251 yards and two touchdowns while adding 28 rushing yards rushing. As expected, the school established its run game, with six different players getting carries. Oregon State totaled 179 yards on the ground with two scores.

Meanwhile, Fresno State secured a 35-7 victory over Cal Poly. But the Bulldogs will face a stiffer test against the Beavers. Pro Football Focus gave Fresno’s pass rush a mediocre grade of 69.1 during its opening victory. That may be an issue against Oregon State and Nolan, who was awarded a stellar 92.7 grade.

The Beavers’ aerial assault and stout run game will give Fresno issues. Look for Oregon State to start 2-0.

USC -9.5 (-106) ★★★★

USC started off fast in its season opener, defeating Rice 66-14. Quarterback Caleb Williams threw for just under 250 yards and two touchdowns, all while leading the team in rushing with 68 yards.

Stanford also looked good in Week 1, albeit against a lesser Colgate Raiders team while winning 41-10. However, this week the Cardinal will face a more difficult challenge against USC. Quarterback Tanner McKee looked great in Week 1, but USC's defense is much better in coverage while earning an 86.5 PFF grade. Additionally, running back E.J. Smith could struggle when trying to establish the run despite compiling 118 yards during the team's opener.

There will be plenty of offense in this game, but USC should still notch a multi-score win.

USC-Stanford Over 65.5 (-110) ★★★

We already anticipate USC covering in this contest, but expect offensive fireworks too because of the stellar quarterbacks involved.

Both USC’s Williams and Stanford’s McKee looked fantastic in Week 1, and they'll succeed once again. It will certainly be a taller task for McKee, but he's one of the best prospects in the country and won’t be totally contained.

PFF gave Stanford’s pass rush a 73.5 grade against Colgate. That's decent, but nothing to write home about. Williams will be given an opportunity to feel comfortable in the pocket. Additionally, the Cardinal's rushing offense was poor apart from Smith, and the unit needed to rely too much on Mckee’s arm.

USC’s pass rush also wasn’t firing on all cylinders against Rice. If that happens again, the Cardinal's offense will excel more than expected.

All signs point to lots of offense in this one. Take the Over with confidence.
