A trip to the national championship game is on the line when the Ohio State Buckeyes and Georgia Bulldogs meet Saturday in the Peach Bowl. It is the second national semifinal on New Year's Eve. Read on for our top Peach Bowl college football picks based on the best NCAAF odds as Ohio State battles Georgia.

For most of the regular season, Ohio State (5-6-1 ATS, 9-3 O/U) looked unbeatable. All 11 of the Buckeyes’ wins on the year have come by double digits. However, a 22-point home loss to rival Michigan prevented Ohio State from playing in the Big Ten Championship Game. Despite the setback, OSU was able to sneak into the College Football Playoff as the 4-seed.

Georgia (7-6 ATS, 5-7-1 O/U) is back to defend its national title from a year ago as the top seed in the College Football Playoff. The Bulldogs capped off a perfect regular season by avenging last year’s loss in the SEC Championship with a dominant victory over LSU. The Dawgs have largely steamrolled their competition to date with 12 of their 13 wins coming by double-digit margins.

Here is our pick for the Peach Bowl CFP Semifinal matchup between Ohio State and Georgia (odds via Tipico Sportsbook; pick confidence based on a 1-to-5 star scale).

Ohio State vs. Georgia Odds Analysis

While there was minimal line movement early for the second CFP Semifinal, that changed Saturday. Most books opened Georgia as either a 6.5- or 7-point favorite, that had come down to 6 at most of the top sportsbooks by Saturday morning and is now down to 5 at Caesars and PointsBet, 5.5 at most other sportsbooks. In terms of betting splits, 77% of all ATS bets and 76% of the handle at DraftKings Sportsbook like the Bulldogs to cover.

The game total opened at 61.5 at most books and climbed to 62.5 even 63 in some spots. As of Saturday afternoon, though, most of the top sportsbooks have the Over/Under at 61.5 or 62. At DraftKings Sportsbook, only 39% of the tickets are on the Under but that brings in 72% of the handle!

Ohio State vs. Georgia Pick

Over 61.5 ⭐⭐

The last time we saw Ohio State on the football field, a defense that had statistically been among the best in the country was absolutely bulldozed by the Michigan ground game. If that game was any indication of how the Buckeyes will hold up in future matchups against physical offenses, coordinator Jim Knowles will have his hands full once again in the Peach Bowl.

On the season, Georgia ranks 12th nationally in rushing yards per game. The Bulldogs are synonymous with having deep stables of running backs over the years, and 2022 is no exception. Kenny McIntosh (709 yards), Daijun Edwards (681), and Kendall Milton (533) all found success running behind one of the top offensive lines in the country.

Even with a healthy Miyan Williams, Ohio State could struggle on the ground against a Georgia defense that comes in allowing only 81.8 rushing yards per game. Luckily, the Buckeyes boast one of the most explosive passing attacks in college football.

The recipe

Quarterback CJ Stroud certainly has no shortage of weapons at his disposal. The absence of Jaxson Smith-Njigba is largely irrelevant given that he also missed the majority of the regular season. The trio of Marvin Harrison Jr., Emeka Egbuka, and Julian Fleming is capable of challenging the UGA defense athletically in a way that it hasn’t been all year.

The real difference between this year’s Georgia team and those of the recent past is found in the passing attack. The Bulldogs are more than happy to put the ball in QB Stetson Bennett’s hands when needed. Combine the Dawgs’ multi-faceted attack with the star-studded Ohio State receiving corps and the final tally should wind up surpassing 61.5 points.

The Peach Bowl offers a great example of why it is so important to shop the odds thoroughly. Tipico may not be as well-known as some other major sportsbooks in the market, but it is easily the preferred choice for those looking to play the Over in the Peach Bowl. The line of 61.5 sits a full point lower than the prevailing total of 62.5. Best of all, bettors can obtain this value at -111 odds.

It should also be noted that books like PointsBet were listing -115 juice on the Over at 62 before moving to 62.5. This only further solidifies the fact that the market is trending to the Over. As Tipico is yet to adjust its line accordingly, bettors have the opportunity to steal a full point of value relative to the current consensus.
