As I dive into my North Texas vs. Indiana prediction, it occurs to me just how much the Mean Green are going to miss Eric Morris and Drew Mestemaker. There’s no hiding from the defending champs in this opening matchup.

As part of our Week 1 college football predictions, No. 6 Indiana is favored by 40.5 points in this game. The action kicks off from Memorial Stadium in Bloomington, Ind., Saturday at noon ET (FOX).

Under 57.5 (-115 via FanDuel)

Forget everything you knew from last season about Indiana, as Curt Cignetti’s first significant crop of talent has been ushered into the NFL ranks, leaving the reigning national champions to reload for another title defense.

Josh Hoover should be a capable caretaker of Cignetti’s offense, but the quarterback who tied for the third-most interceptions (13) in FBS last season could endure some hiccups in the opener. Indiana should still cruise, but those hiccups could mute the overall scoring environment.

North Texas is picking up the pieces after losing its coach and QB to Oklahoma State, so I’m not expecting much from the Mean Green offense against Indiana’s stout defensive reputation.

This total opened at 54.5 and has creeped up to 57.5, an environment that adds value to our position on the Under. We’re playing the Under at FanDuel to gain access to the number at 57.5 compared to 56.5 at other shops, but we like it down to the original line of 54.5.

📡 SBR Edge

Indiana games were 9-7 on Overs last season, less of a lean toward the Over than you might expect given the wealth of talent they possess on offense. This year, Cignetti has had to replace that entire unit.

Broyles Award-winning coach will have Hoosiers D ready

Indiana DC Bryant Haines has been attached at the hip to Curt Cignetti throughout the latter’s rise to prominence, and he got the respect he deserved last year as the Broyles Award winner, recognizing Haines as the top assistant coach in the nation.

The defensive personnel will look different, but it will be a more pronounced drop-off on the North Texas side offensively. Under Haines’ tutelage, a reloaded Indiana defense should set the tone in the opener.

Score prediction: Indiana 47, North Texas 6
