Michigan State vs. Notre Dame Prediction: Week 3 Odds, Picks & Best Bet

For the first time since 2017 No. 3 Notre Dame and Michigan State meet on the gridiron, and my Michigan State vs. Notre Dame prediction expects a shootout after a long pause in the once annual rivalry. There is some bad history in this rivalry for the Fighting Irish, as the Spartans won 11 of the last 19 head-to-head meetings and have the second most wins all-time against Notre Dame.
Kickoff from Notre Dame Stadium is set for 7:30 p.m. ET on Saturday (NBC). Notre Dame is a 28.5-point betting favorite.

Over 52 (-112 via Caesars)
When Notre Dame started last season 0-2, it knew it needed to impress the CFP committee in every game after that, and ran up scores to pad its metrics. This year head coach Marcus Freeman instilled a team motto "Leave No Doubt", and that mindset of playing clean offensive football and leaving nothing on the table should ring true all season. It won't hurt to pad quarterback C.J. Carr's Heisman resume as well.
Michigan State allowed 20 points to Toledo despite the Rockets possessing the ball for fewer than 17 minutes and ending one of their drives with a missed field goal. Meanwhile, Carr is coming off a career-high four-touchdown effort against Rice, and his 5:1 TD:INT ratio should only get better with more experience.
Michigan State was 5-0 ATS as a road underdog in 2025. It should stay competitive in this game as well with an offense that can put up points with quarterback Alessio Miliojevic operating from a clean pocket. The Fighting Irish haven't had the pass rush they were touted to have, as they've produced just three sacks through two games.
📡 SBR Edge: Spartans as 'dogs equals Overs
The Over has cashed in more than half of Michigan State's last 25 games as an underdog, including eight of its last 15 as a road 'dog.
Michigan State's rushing attack will keep the chains moving
Granted it has come against Toledo and Eastern Michigan, but Michigan State has run for 150 and 258 yards through its first two games. Cam Edwards is responsible for most of that with 125 yards per game, and he is a proven multi-purpose back after racking up over 3,200 total yards at UConn.
Something's got to give as Notre Dame's defense allows just 65.5 yards per game on the ground. But a lot of that is because of the game script, with Wisconsin falling behind quickly after halftime and Rice trailing 28-0 17 minutes into last week's game. I look for the Spartans to stay close early and not become as one-dimensional as Notre Dame's first two opponents did.
Score prediction: Notre Dame 42, Michigan State 17
