The nation's top-ranked team hits the road for a potential trap game in my Miami vs. North Carolina prediction.

No. 1 Miami has benefited from QB Darian Mensah's arrival, as he currently possesses an 81 percent completion rate with over 2,100 yards, 22 touchdowns, and 1 interception. The Hurricanes are -14.5-point road favorites at Kenan Stadium in Chapel Hill, N.C., ahead of Saturday night's 7:30 p.m. ET kickoff (ABC).

North Carolina +14.5 (-114 via bet365)

It's been a wild ride for North Carolina this year. The Tar Heels beat Pitt and Duke on the road, before losing 31-30 to Syracuse in overtime at home in Week 8.

Head coach Bill Belichick has helped North Carolina get its defense close to a top-40 unit in 2026. However, taking on the country's top-ranked offense with a quarterback putting up record efficiency is a difficult task, even for a decorated Super Bowl winner like Belichick.

North Carolina's offense has shown life with QB Billy Edwards Jr. He's thrown for over 1,500 yards and 11 touchdowns, while RB Demon June leads the way with 7 rushing touchdowns.

The Tar Heels tend to cycle carries between June, Edwards, and a couple of other running backs to stay fresh. Miami's defense allowed Florida State to log 4.1 YPC in a near-loss to the Seminoles in Week 7.

If North Carolina can stay on schedule, there's a chance the Tar Heels can cover as a 2-touchdown underdog at home. They did it against Notre Dame only a few weeks ago, losing by just 9 points.

Go to bet365 and bet on North Carolina +14.5 at -114 odds.

📡 SBR Edge: Tar Heels Trending

North Carolina has covered +14.5 in all 7 games played in 2026.

Belichick's Crafty Defense Gives Hurricanes a Scare

Leave it up to Belichick to shut down the nation's best quarterback. North Carolina's pass defense has only allowed 3 passing touchdowns across its last 3 matchups.

Edwards and the Tar Heels' offense will do enough to move into scoring position against the Hurricanes' 11th-ranked defense. North Carolina leans into its defense and run game, plus its home-field advantage, to give Miami a scare in Chapel Hill.

Play to: UNC +10.5

Score prediction: Miami 27, North Carolina 24
