Michigan +7.5 (-124 via FanDuel)

Michigan is expected to start Tommy Carr at quarterback this week. Carr bailed the Wolverines out of a 3-0 halftime hole after former starter Bryce Underwood threw two interceptions. Carr led three scoring drives, including one 11-play drive that chewed up over six minutes, while logging a 90.2 QBR. With limited tape on Carr, Indiana will have a harder time preparing.

For the second straight year, dating back to last year’s Big Ten Championship, Indiana’s margins against Ohio State were razor thin. The Hoosiers lost by four in a game where they converted 10% more third downs, had a 33% higher red zone touchdown percentage, logged four more tackles for loss, and knocked out the Buckeyes' starting quarterback. Indiana's minus-3.6 field-position margin is also Michigan’s path to keeping the game close.

📡 SBR Edge: Indiana's recent ATS struggles

Indiana is 1-7 ATS in its last eight games, while Michigan won its last game as a home underdog (+5) against Oklahoma (17-10).

Michigan's secondary will challenge Indiana's receivers

Indiana entered Week 7 as the only FBS school with two players who had logged 500 or more receiving yards this season (Charlie Becker and Nick Marsh). Becker in particular was averaging 18.9 yards per reception over the last two seasons (second-most in FBS), while quarterback Josh Hoover was fourth among FBS quarterbacks averaging 10.6 yards per attempt.

Michigan’s defense has a path to limiting Indiana’s explosive pass plays, ranking first in the Big Ten in average depth of target allowed (7.4 yards). That remains true if the Wolverines continue to get great production from its starting safeties. Rod Moore Jr. and Chris Bracy earned two of PFF’s top three defensive grades among Wolverines players, with Moore specifically earning an 89.0 coverage grade after allowing 14 yards on three targets.

Play to: Michigan +7, pass at Michigan +6.5 or lower

Score prediction: Indiana 23, Michigan 17
