The rivalry between No. 17 Florida and No. 3 Georgia is known as the “World’s Largest Outdoor Cocktail Party”, and my Florida vs. Georgia prediction expects the Bulldogs to continue their dominance over their SEC rival under head coach Kirby Smart.

As of this writing, Florida had not yet named a starting quarterback between Aaron Philo and Tramell Jones Jr., but Georgia had the benefit of a bye week to prepare for both options.

This rivalry is usually played in Jacksonville annually, but with renovations being done on the Jaguars’ stadium, the game has been moved to Mercedes-Benz Stadium in Atlanta. Kickoff is set for 3:30 p.m. ET on Saturday (ABC), and Georgia is an 11.5-point betting favorite.

Georgia -11.5 (-110 via FanDuel)

Georgia is historically known as a program with an imposing defense and bruising running back. While that is not entirely different from this year’s reputation, Kirby Smart’s squad is much more explosive offensively than it has been in recent years, leading the SEC and ranking second nationally in scoring offense.

Florida’s rushing offense is its strength, led by running back Jadan Baugh who is terrific after first contact. But Georgia’s defense is one of the best tackling units, and its run defense allows fewer than three yards per carry (11th-best). That will be a huge key to a Bulldogs cover (and outright win), as Jon Sumrall’s teams are 37-3 when they run for 125 yards or more.

The Gators are also an undisciplined team, ranking 113th in most penalties committed per game (7.8). Meanwhile, it should be difficult to keep up in scoring, as Georgia’s defense allows opponents to score on 23% of drives (top-14 rate).

📡 SBR Edge: Great head-to-head success

Georgia is 8-2 against Florida under head coach Kirby Smart.

Prepared for either Gators quarterback

Tramell Jones Jr. became the fifth SEC quarterback over the last 20 seasons to beat an AP top-10 team on the road in his first career start. While his mobility clearly had Texas off-balance all game, Georgia not only had a bye week to prepare for both his and Aaron Philo’s differing skill sets, but the Bulldogs should have a better game plan in place for a mobile quarterback than they did when Auburn’s Byrum Brown ran for 115 yards in their last game. Whoever starts will find it difficult to move the ball through the air against a Georgia defense that allows less than six yards per attempt (11th).

Conversely, Georgia’s passing attack presents the biggest mismatch in this game. The Bulldogs complete nearly 72% of their passes (6th), while Florida’s pass defense allows a 65% completion percentage (109th). That should help Georgia maintain or improve upon its sixth-ranked third-down offense (nearly a 54% conversion rate), while Florida’s third-down defense allows conversions at a 44% clip (119th).

Play to: Georgia -12.5 (-110)

Score prediction: Georgia 35, Florida 21
